The State honours journalists on National Press Day during a vibrant celebration in Goa that highlighted excellence in media. At the State-level ceremony, the State honours journalists on National Press Day by recognising editors, senior reporters and veteran contributors for their outstanding work across various fields.
Goan Varta Editor Pandurang Gaonkar won the Best Editor Award for his article promoting national integration and communal harmony. The Goan Everyday senior reporter Vibha Verma earned recognition for impactful stories on women, children and social issues. Bhangarbhuimi reporter Sameep Narvekar received an award for highlighting government achievements through his reporting.
Senior journalist Joel Afonso from The Goan Everyday and Bhangarbhuimi sub-editor Atul Pandit were also felicitated for their contributions. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presented all awards and praised the media for its essential role in shaping public awareness.
During his address, Sawant stressed the need for balanced reporting and urged journalists to present all sides of every story. He welcomed constructive criticism and encouraged the press to protect Goa’s image while maintaining truth and transparency. The Chief Minister also assured positive consideration of the demand to increase the journalist pension from the current ₹10,000 per month.
