Sunil Narang, a well-known producer and distributor and head of Asian Multiplexes, informed the Film Chamber about his decision through an official email. He said he stepped down from the position due to personal reasons. The chamber’s executive committee later accepted his resignation.
The controversy started after exhibitors demanded a percentage-based revenue model for single-screen theatres. Several leading producers opposed the proposal, which led to disagreements within the industry and increased tension among film bodies.
Following Narang’s resignation, the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce is expected to conduct elections soon to select a new president. Industry members hope the new leadership will help resolve the ongoing issues between producers and theatre owners.
