Supreme Court Approves Kerala Land Allocation for BrahMos Project
The Supreme Court has approved the Kerala government’s proposal to allot land for the BrahMos missile project, allowing the State to provide space for defense infrastructure and research development. Under the approved plan, 180 acres will be allocated to the BrahMos Aerospace Testing Laboratory (BATL), 45 acres to the Strategic Systems Battalion (SSB) for a battalion headquarters, and 32 acres for a forensic university focused on defense technology studies.
The court’s green light comes after careful consideration of environmental, legal, and strategic factors, ensuring that the land allocation aligns with national security priorities while addressing public and administrative concerns. Officials highlighted that the development will strengthen India’s missile research and defense preparedness, fostering technological advancement and regional security.
Kerala authorities are now expected to proceed with land transfer and infrastructure development in coordination with the defense agencies. The project is anticipated to create employment opportunities, boost local economies, and enhance India’s indigenous defense capabilities.
