Supreme Court Flags Rising ‘Digital Arrests,’ Considers CBI Probe

The Bench noted that victims often find themselves running from pillar to post, struggling to clear their names, and stressed the urgent need for coordinated action. The court is now considering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)-led probe into rising digital fraud incidents, which have caused widespread alarm and confusion. It emphasized that law enforcement agencies must exercise caution while acting on online complaints and ensure due process is followed. The Bench also pointed out gaps in current digital crime frameworks and suggested stronger mechanisms for verification and accountability.
