New Delhi: In a major relief for YSRCP leader Chevireddy Mohith Reddy, the Supreme Court on Friday granted him anticipatory bail in the alleged liquor scam case. The apex court also issued notices to the Andhra Pradesh government and postponed further hearings for four weeks. Mohith Reddy has been named as Accused No. 39 (A-39) in the case, while his father, former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy (A-38), was arrested on June 18 and is currently in judicial remand at Vijayawada jail.

The SIT alleged that Mohith used official vehicles to transport illegal liquor bribe money. After the Andhra Pradesh High Court denied relief, Mohith approached the Supreme Court seeking protection from arrest.

Senior advocates argued that the case was based merely on the seizure of money from a car registered in his name. The bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath accepted the defense argument and granted pre-arrest bail, offering significant respite to the YSRCP leader.
