Supreme Court Seeks Delhi Government’s Response on Death Penalty Plea in Red Fort Terror Case
The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Delhi government on a plea filed by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Mohammad Arif, who is challenging his death sentence in the 2000 Red Fort attack case.
Mohammad Arif was convicted for his role in the terror attack at the Red Fort in Delhi, where three Indian Army jawans were killed. He was awarded the death penalty for his involvement in the attack, which shocked the nation and raised serious security concerns at the time.
In his plea, Arif has asked the court to review his death sentence. The Supreme Court has now sought a response from the Delhi government before taking a final decision on the matter.
The court’s notice does not mean relief has been granted. It only marks the beginning of legal proceedings to examine the plea. The case continues to draw attention due to its link to terrorism and national security.
