Supreme Court Seeks EC Response as Kerala Seeks Deferment of Voter List Revision
The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the Election Commission (EC) after the Kerala Government and several political parties sought the deferment of the Special Summary Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State. Hearing the matter, Justice Sanjiv Khanna (J. Kant) observed that political parties have increasingly begun approaching the Supreme Court over the SIR process, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with the ongoing revision exercise.
Multiple parties in Kerala have challenged the timing and execution of the SIR, arguing that the process is flawed and could lead to widespread errors in the voter list. They contended that the revision should be postponed to ensure accuracy and transparency, particularly ahead of crucial electoral cycles.
The Court has asked the Election Commission to respond to the concerns raised. The notice marks an important step in determining whether the SIR will proceed as scheduled or face delays following judicial review.
