In a shocking incident, an advocate named Rakesh Kishore attempted to throw an object at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai during Supreme Court proceedings. The Bar Council of India immediately suspended him. This Supreme Court attack on Chief Justice drew sharp condemnation across political lines. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the act “reprehensible and shameful,” stressing that such violence has no place in a civilized society.
Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav reacted strongly, describing it as an “anti-Dalit mentality” and an insult to Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He also called it a reflection of hatred spreading since 2014. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge echoed similar concerns, terming it an attack on both the Constitution and the dignity of the judiciary.
Eyewitnesses said the advocate shouted religious slogans while being escorted out, but the Chief Justice calmly resumed the session, urging others not to be distracted. The Supreme Court attack on Chief Justice has united leaders across parties in condemning the growing intolerance and demanding stronger protection for judicial institutions.
