Kolkata: West Bengal Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari has written to the Election Commission of India requesting tighter monitoring for the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls.
In his letter, Adhikari alleged that the neutrality of the ongoing SIR process is being compromised due to the misuse of police machinery by the ruling TMC government. He claimed the BJP has received multiple reports of “undue influence” aimed at interfering with the revision exercise.
To ensure transparency, Adhikari demanded that the entire second phase—covering claims, objections, and document submissions—be monitored exclusively by Micro Observers who are Central Government employees. He also called for 100% CCTV coverage of scrutiny and hearing processes, with all footage preserved until the completion of SIR to prevent any manipulation.
Adhikari stressed that such measures are essential to safeguarding the credibility and impartiality of the voter roll revision in West Bengal.
