The Indian Army has started deploying the indigenous SAKSHAM Counter Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Grid System. It detects, tracks, identifies, and neutralises hostile drones in real time. The system secures airspace up to 3,000 metres above the ground.

Operation Sindoor, where nearly 400 drones fired by Pakistan were neutralised, revealed the need for SAKSHAM. The Army upgraded its approach from Tactical Battle Area (TBA) to Tactical Battlefield Space (TBS). This allows forces to control both land and air littoral zones in modern conflicts.

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) developed SAKSHAM with the Army. The system connects own and enemy UAS data, CUAS sensors, and soft/hard-kill systems on a GIS-based platform. It provides commanders with real-time information and a scalable, flexible architecture for evolving threats.

SAKSHAM uses AI-enabled threat analysis for faster decision-making. Fully indigenous, it supports India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. The Fast Track Procurement route will speed up rollout. The Army plans to equip all field formations within a year, strengthening India’s counter-drone and battlefield capabilities.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that the ‘Make in India’ initiative has transformed the country into a global manufacturing hub under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Launched 11 years ago, the scheme aimed to revive India’s manufacturing strength.

Goyal highlighted record foreign direct investment inflows, improved ease of doing business, India becoming the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally, rising exports, and expanding defence production as key achievements. The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme has attracted investments and generated employment.

He noted that India’s startup ecosystem, driven by youth and women, has made the country the world’s third-largest innovation hub. Goyal emphasized that the journey was possible due to the efforts of industries, MSMEs, startups, entrepreneurs, and citizens embracing the Swadeshi spirit.

To further boost the initiative, Goyal launched new DPIIT initiatives to improve industry efficiency and a globally competitive logistics ecosystem. He also unveiled Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0, promoting India’s digitally empowered and export-ready economy. He stated that the next phase of ‘Make in India’ will advance Aatmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat, while the nation’s indigenous defence production continues to grow.

At about 77 metres long, the ship is the largest Indian naval warship powered by a diesel engine-waterjet combination.
