The Assam government has taken a major step to strengthen internal security and prevent youth radicalization by banning all jihadi literature and digital content linked to terrorist organizations such as Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Ansar-al-Islam/Pro-AQIS, and their affiliates.

The ban covers not only books and magazines but also websites, social media pages, encrypted channels, and online groups. According to the authorities, these materials posed a serious threat to India’s sovereignty, integrity, and security. Intelligence reports revealed that students, laborers, drivers, and even unemployed youth were digitally connected to jihadi networks. Their phones contained literature portraying India as an “enemy state,” police as “oppressors,” and democracy as “haram,” promoting extremist ideology.

Security agencies found that the banned content glorified violent jihad, provided training guidance, and encouraged recruitment for terrorist activities. Digital channels, websites, and encrypted messaging platforms were being used to spread extremist narratives, increasing distrust among communities.

The Assam Police, CID, and Cyber Crime units have been directed to strictly enforce the ban under Section 98 of the Bengal National Security Code (BNSS), taking immediate legal action against violators. Officials emphasized that the crackdown is aimed at safeguarding public order, maintaining communal harmony, and protecting youth from extremist influences.

The Assam government has taken a major step against radicalisation by imposing a complete ban on jihadi and extremist literature across the state. In a notification issued on Wednesday, the government declared that the publication, sale, distribution, storage, and digital sharing of such content is now fully prohibited under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act.

According to the order, literature linked to banned organisations—such as Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Ansar-al-Islam/Pro-AQIS, and other extremist networks—poses a serious threat to internal security, communal harmony, and public order in Assam.

Recent reports from the police and special branches revealed that radical material inspired by these outfits was circulating both online and offline. Digital platforms, websites, and encrypted groups were found sharing extremist messages, potentially influencing vulnerable youth. The government has instructed strict legal action against anyone involved in the creation, possession, or dissemination of such content, emphasising that the move is essential to safeguard the state from growing radical activities.
