The Union government issued a gazette notification confirming the formation of the new railway zone. This decision fulfills a long-pending demand of the people of Andhra Pradesh after the state’s bifurcation in 2014.

The new zone will include key railway divisions such as Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal, and Visakhapatnam. These divisions were reorganized from the South Central Railway and East Coast Railway zones to form the new administrative structure.

Officials say the new zone will improve railway administration and strengthen connectivity across the state. It is also expected to boost economic development and create employment opportunities in several regions of Andhra Pradesh.
