SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee announced that the new lighting system will make the temple visible from up to 10 kilometres. The project focuses on enhancing the beauty of the temple while keeping its historic charm intact. The Heritage Illumination design includes modern lighting for major structures but avoids the sanctum sanctorum to maintain tradition.

The Archaeological Survey of India has finished the Detailed Project Report, and SJTA will now seek funding from the State government under the Abadha scheme. Officials believe the illumination will not only enrich the spiritual atmosphere for devotees but also boost tourism around the heritage site.

Once completed, the upgraded lighting will give visitors a breathtaking view of the temple after sunset and create a vibrant night skyline for Puri. The project aims to blend technology with heritage and celebrate the sacred identity of Lord Jagannath’s abode.
