Former Patiala MP and BJP leader Preneet Kaur led a group of farmers to meet Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. They demanded urgent action to stop the recurring disaster.

Villages such as Sassi Brahmna, Sassi Gujran, Dharmheri, Hashampur, Bhagwanpur, and Sassa have suffered the worst damage this year. Since September 9, angry farmers have staged a protest at Dharamaheri village.

“Thousands of acres of fertile farmland are under water. Farmers face huge losses,” said Preneet. She asked Haryana to clean the canal, redesign siphons, and allow free water flow. She also noted that even four Haryana villages have been hit by the raised canal level.

CM Saini assured farmers that technical teams will study the issue quickly and visit the affected sites.

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh supported the demand, calling for structural changes in siphons. Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will visit flood-hit villages along the Ghaggar river to review the situation.

The 109-km Hansi-Butana canal was built by Haryana to divert its share of water from the Bhakra Main Line.
