Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday. The leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the India-Israel Strategic Partnership. They also exchanged views on regional developments and reaffirmed their joint commitment to fight terrorism.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Netanyahu in Jerusalem on December 17, 2025, and conveyed warm wishes from PM Modi. They discussed enhancing cooperation in technology, economy, skills, talent, connectivity, and security. Netanyahu expressed appreciation for India’s perspectives on regional and global developments.

EAM Jaishankar also met Israeli President Isaac Herzog. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of the India-Israel Strategic Partnership. They reiterated India’s support for lasting peace in the region and stressed the need for early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan.

Earlier, on December 10, PM Modi had spoken with Netanyahu over the phone regarding the West Asia situation. The Prime Minister’s Office said both leaders strongly condemned terrorism in all forms.

Israeli Prime Minister *Benjamin Netanyahu* strongly opposed moves by countries such as the *UK, Canada, and Australia* to recognize *Palestine as a sovereign nation. He stated that *“Palestine as a country does not exist”*, asserting that Israel is confronting attempts to establish a **terrorist state on its territory*.

Netanyahu criticized international support for groups responsible for past attacks, referencing the *OCT 70 massacre, and warned that these actions effectively **reward terrorism. He emphasized that, despite facing opposition both **domestically and internationally, Israel has successfully **prevented the establishment of terrorist infrastructure* within its borders and will continue to do so in the future.

The Israeli PM’s remarks underline the *country’s firm stance on security and territorial integrity, signaling a **continued rejection of Palestinian statehood recognition* and a commitment to *combat terrorism and protect national sovereignty*.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez urged the United Nations to admit Palestine as a full member state during a French-led summit in New York on September 22. He emphasized that the process must be completed soon and on equal footing with other states.

Sanchez described the summit as “only the beginning” and called for immediate measures to stop the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, formally recognized Palestine in May, drawing sharp criticism from Israel.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the summit virtually, urging Hamas to surrender weapons and condemning civilian killings, including those by Hamas during the October 7, 2023 attacks. The summit aimed to advance international recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to block Palestinian statehood, while far-right ministers support annexing the West Bank. The Biden administration also opposed the recognition, citing concerns that it rewards Hamas. The ongoing debate highlights divisions among global powers over Palestine’s international status.
