Political activity in Bihar is heating up as elections approach. The Seemanchal region—covering Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, and Araria—will vote in the second phase on November 11. Leaders from all major parties have toured the area to assess the situation and prepare their strategy.

Both the Grand Alliance and the NDA hold 12 assembly seats each in Seemanchal. Yet, neither has finalized its list of candidates. Party leaders in Patna and Delhi are engaged in intense discussions about ticket allocation. The key debate is whether to repeat old candidates or introduce new ones.

Sources suggest that some constituencies will get new faces, while others will retain sitting members. However, one or two surprise names might still appear. The uncertainty has led to growing tension within both alliances.

In Purnia district alone, over 20.8 lakh voters are set to cast their votes. With the election date confirmed, people across Seemanchal are eagerly waiting for the official list of candidates. The final decision by both alliances could influence the entire political balance of the region.

The Bihar election schedule 2025 is expected to be announced today, bringing the state closer to its democratic festival. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar confirmed after his two-day visit to Patna that the announcement will happen soon, possibly after Monday afternoon. He urged the people of Bihar to participate in the elections with the same enthusiasm as they celebrate Chhath Puja.

The term of the 17th Bihar Assembly ends on November 22, and the polls will be completed before that. The Bihar election schedule 2025 press conference was conducted in Bhojpuri and Maithili. The CEC thanked voters and praised Bihar’s efficient SIR voter list correction, calling it an example for the entire nation.

He clarified that the Aadhaar card will be accepted only as an identity card, not as proof of citizenship. The Election Commission has also capped the number of voters per polling station at 1,200 to reduce waiting time. During his visit, Gyanesh Kumar held meetings with top officials, police officers, and political representatives to ensure fair and smooth elections across the state.

This follows a two-day review of poll preparedness across the state. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, met state officials in Patna to assess security, logistics, and law-and-order measures to ensure free and fair elections.

“We are fully committed to conducting transparent and peaceful elections in Bihar,” CEC Gyanesh Kumar said.

The review covered EVM management, polling station arrangements, training of election staff, voter awareness campaigns, and social media monitoring to prevent misinformation. District officers and police were instructed to take swift action against any attempts to disrupt the process.

Ahead of the schedule announcement, the Election Commission met with major political parties, including BJP, JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPI(ML), and AAP. Several parties requested polling after Chhath Puja, Bihar’s key festival, to maximize voter turnout. JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha suggested single-phase polling so migrant voters could return home. The BJP also urged paramilitary deployment in sensitive areas.

The final electoral roll, published on September 30, lists 7.42 crore voters. The Special Intensive Revision of rolls was completed ahead of schedule, paving the way for the Bihar election dates 2025 announcement.

The upcoming elections are expected to be a direct contest between the NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD. Currently, the NDA holds 131 seats in the 243-member Assembly, while the Mahagathbandhan has 111.

Leaders like Imran Pratapgarhi, Rajesh Ram, and Shakeel Ahmed Khan took part in long discussions. The party plans to field many new faces this time. Some current MLAs may contest from different constituencies. Seats where sitting MLAs face resentment are also under review.

Congress is claiming new constituencies and shortlisting strong candidates based on local conditions.

In the upcoming Bihar elections, Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has declared that his main focus will be cow protection. He described the cow as the soul of Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma. Swami Avimukteshwaranand announced that “cow protector” candidates will contest in all 243 assembly seats as a protest.

He explained that these candidates will not belong to any political party, nor will there be alliances. Instead, independent candidates committed to cow protection will be chosen and blessed by him. He stressed that atrocities against cows are rising, and past governments have failed to act. Therefore, voters should support only those who view cow slaughter as a sin and promise to safeguard indigenous breeds.

The Election Commission has not yet declared the Bihar election schedule but is expected to announce dates by October 6. Once dates are announced, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect. For now, the main contest remains between the NDA and the Grand Alliance, but Swami’s move is likely to draw attention in all constituencies.

The state is witnessing a political storm as BJP and Congress leaders step up their campaigns. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has begun a two-day visit to Bihar. He will attend BJP workers’ meetings in Bettiah, Patna, Samastipur, and Araria. This marks his second trip to Bihar in just eight days, showing how serious BJP is about the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a welfare push by transferring ₹10,000 each to 7.5 million women under Jeevika. The NDA hopes this scheme will boost support among women voters.

On the other side, Priyanka Gandhi’s Bihar visit is grabbing attention. She will campaign in Motihari and Patna, focusing on women and backward classes. The Congress is also starting a signature campaign against vote theft to build momentum.

Both the NDA and the Grand Alliance are treating the elections as a battle of prestige. With Amit Shah and Priyanka Gandhi leading from the front, Bihar is all set for an intense electoral fight.

Bakhtiyarpur’s Assembly has a unique record. In six consecutive elections from 2000 to 2020, no party has won twice in a row. This makes Bakhtiyarpur a true swing seat in Bihar politics. The contest has always been tight, with BJP and RJD taking turns, while Congress lost its dominance after 1990.

Located near the Ganga, Bakhtiyarpur is historically linked to Nalanda and is the birthplace of CM Nitish Kumar. Once a Congress stronghold, it later became the battleground of BJP and RJD. Since 1977, Yadav candidates have held strong influence here, shaping the political landscape for the last four decades.

In 2020, RJD’s Anirudh Kumar defeated BJP’s Ranvijay Singh. This time, the fight looks tougher with BJP, RJD, and Jansuraj in the fray. Development issues such as roads, bridges, education, and flood protection dominate the debate. While BJP blames poor progress, the sitting MLA highlights new roads, anti-erosion work, and a riverfront project.

Bakhtiyarpur’s mix of caste equations, history, and development promises another high-voltage battle. No party can take victory for granted in this unpredictable seat.
