The Samrat Choudhary NDA government swearing-in took place on 15 April in Patna, marking a major political change in Bihar. BJP leader Samrat Choudhary became the Chief Minister, while two senior JD(U) leaders took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.

The ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan around 11 a.m. Governor Syed Ata Hasanain administered the oath to Samrat Choudhary. Along with him, JD(U) leaders Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary took oath as deputy chief ministers.

Interestingly, only three leaders took oath during this first ceremony. The NDA alliance plans to expand the cabinet later and include ministers from BJP, JD(U), LJP-Ram Vilas, HAM, and other allies.

This moment is historic because Samrat Choudhary became the first BJP leader to serve as Chief Minister of Bihar. His leadership signals a new phase in the state’s politics.

The Samrat Choudhary NDA government swearing-in is expected to shape the new government structure in the coming weeks as more ministers join the cabinet.

The political atmosphere in Bihar is energetic as the NDA Legislature Party meeting Bihar begins today. Leaders from JDU and BJP are preparing for important decisions. The meeting will choose the new legislative party leader. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to take oath tomorrow at Gandhi Maidan. The key phrase NDA Legislature Party meeting Bihar reflects the main focus of the day.

JDU MLAs will meet at the Chief Minister’s residence at 11 am. BJP MLAs will gather at their state office at 10 am. Senior leaders, including Keshav Prasad Maurya, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, have arrived in Patna to monitor the meetings.

Nitish Kumar reached Gandhi Maidan last evening to review arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony. Officials explained the seating plan, security arrangements, and arrangements for VIPs and elected MLAs. Nitish Kumar also reviewed visitor movement and gave instructions to ensure smooth management.

The 17th Bihar Legislative Assembly will be dissolved today. The cabinet approved this step on Monday, and the Chief Minister submitted the proposal to the Governor. All newly elected MLAs from the NDA will attend today’s important meeting, which marks the formation of a new government in the state.

The BJP has become the largest party in Bihar, and its 89 MLAs will choose their new legislative party leader on Wednesday. The central leadership has sent a special team of Bihar OBC EBC SC observers to Patna. This team includes Keshav Prasad Maurya, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. The BJP wants to highlight its focus on backward and Dalit communities, so the presence of these three leaders carries a clear political message.

Keshav Prasad Maurya comes from the Maurya (Koeri) caste in Uttar Pradesh, while this caste is very influential in Bihar politics. Niranjan Jyoti represents the Nishad community, which is an EBC group in Bihar. Meghwal is a prominent Dalit leader from Rajasthan. Their visit increases the importance of Bihar OBC EBC SC observers in the leadership election.

The BJP also aims to send a signal to Uttar Pradesh voters. UP will have elections in 2027, and several Koeri and Nishad leaders play a big role there. Sending Maurya and Niranjan Jyoti to Bihar also strengthens BJP’s connection with OBC voters in UP.

In Bihar, caste balance matters in government formation. BJP may get 15–16 ministerial posts. Decisions on Deputy CMs and key ministries will depend on this new caste equation.

The Bihar government formation process has gained speed after the NDA’s big win in the 2025 Assembly elections. Leaders from the BJP, JDU, and other NDA partners reached Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence to discuss the next steps. The Bihar government formation meetings focused on the new cabinet, swearing-in plans, and coordination among alliance partners.

Early on Thursday, JDU leaders Sanjay Jha and Lallan Singh met Nitish Kumar to review the post-election strategy. Later, Union Minister Chirag Paswan also arrived to thank the Chief Minister for the NDA’s victory. He said Nitish Kumar praised the efforts of all NDA partners during the campaign.

More senior JDU leaders, including Vijay Chaudhary and Shyam Rajak, visited Anne Marg for key discussions. After the meeting, LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan said the NDA won because of unity and teamwork.

Chirag Paswan rejected claims made by the Grand Alliance about a rift between the JDU and LJP. He said both parties worked together and supported each other’s candidates. As talks move forward, the final cabinet structure and swearing-in date are likely to be announced soon.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, reserved seats played a key role. BJP secured 10 reserved seats, while RJD won 9. Congress got 5 reserved seats. This shift changed the state’s political landscape, with parties focusing on winning these crucial seats.

Since independence, reserved seats in Bihar’s elections have evolved. Congress once dominated, but this changed in 1977. The Janata Party won more reserved seats, marking the start of its political rise. This shift weakened Congress’ influence over time.

Reserved seats continue to shape Bihar’s political landscape. The 2015 elections saw a record increase in these seats. As a result, parties have placed more emphasis on winning them. The number of reserved seats has become a key factor in forming the government.

In the 1977 elections, the Janata Party’s success in securing reserved seats changed the political dynamic. By 1990, their influence grew, further reducing Congress’ dominance. As political shifts continued, the struggle for reserved seats intensified.

After the 2020 elections, the RJD gained ground, reshaping Bihar’s politics. Reserved seats have become a significant battleground for political parties. These seats will continue to influence future elections in the state.
