Under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, about one crore Jeevika Didis in Bihar will receive life insurance coverage this year. The state government plans a large enrollment drive to ensure that more rural women get financial security through the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and other related schemes.

The campaign will start after 15 April across all gram panchayats. Officials aim to cover women who are still outside the insurance network. At present, nearly 72 lakh Jeevika Didis already have insurance coverage. The special drive is called the “Bima Suraksha Utsav.”

Two government schemes will provide the coverage. Under the scheme, women aged 18–50 will pay ₹436 annually and their families will receive ₹2 lakh in case of natural death. Another scheme offers accident insurance for women aged 18–70 with only ₹20 annual premium.

If both schemes apply in an accident case, families can receive up to ₹4 lakh as financial support. The insurance coverage will become effective from 1 June and remain valid for one year.

Officials started work under PM Awas Yojana in Bihar after the 2018–19 survey. The survey identified around 30 lakh families who needed houses. The central government approved about 12.20 lakh houses for the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26.

However, construction progress remains slow. Authorities have completed only around four lakh houses so far. More than eight lakh houses are still pending across many districts.

Funding delays also slowed the work. The central government did not release funds between July 2025 and February 2026. This pause stopped construction in several areas.

Later, the Centre released ₹90 crore and ₹950 crore in March 2026. The Bihar government also added ₹631 crore to speed up construction.

A new survey in 2025 identified around 1.04 crore families. Out of them, about 60 lakh families may qualify for housing support in the future.

During the visit, the Chief Minister stayed in Nirmali for around two and a half hours. He inaugurated and laid the foundation for 213 development projects worth about ₹569 crore in the district. These projects include infrastructure and welfare schemes that will benefit rural and urban residents, youth, and women.

Nitish Kumar also inspected development works, visited departmental stalls, and held a review meeting with district officials. Later, he addressed a public interaction program and spoke with members of the Jeevika groups.

The Sword on clothing scholarship bicycle scheme for more than 5 lakh children could stop benefits if schools fail to update records on time.

Officials found mistakes in student details on the e-Shiksha Kosh portal across many government schools. These errors involve students from Classes 1 to 10 and directly affect clothing grants, scholarships and bicycle benefits.

The department earlier fixed 15 February as the last date but later extended it to 28 February. Authorities want schools to ensure that no eligible child loses financial support.

Common errors include wrong names, incorrect Aadhaar numbers, spelling mistakes in parents’ names and inaccurate dates of birth. Teachers and school staff are now reviewing records and updating the portal quickly.

Education officials have urged district officers to monitor the process closely and complete corrections before the deadline.

Nitish 7 Nishchay Part 3 has officially begun, setting a clear roadmap for Bihar’s development from 2025 to 2030. The plan was approved in a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. With this, the government aims to transform Bihar’s economy and quality of life over the next five years.

Under Nitish 7 Nishchay Part 3, the state targets doubling employment and per capita income. An investment of ₹50 lakh crore is planned to create one crore jobs. Special focus will be given to women’s employment. Financial support under women-centric schemes will rise up to ₹2 lakh to help them start or expand work.

The plan also aims to turn Bihar into the technology and industrial hub of Eastern India. New industrial areas will be developed in every district. Closed sugar mills will restart, and 25 new mills will be set up. Local products will get strong export support.

Farmers will also benefit. A new agricultural roadmap, including a dedicated makhana plan, will boost incomes. Dairy, fisheries, irrigation, and Sudha sales centres in every panchayat will strengthen rural livelihoods.

The Bihar road repair policy aims to upgrade and maintain urban roads for the next seven years. Under this new plan, the state will focus on long-term maintenance and better quality. The Bihar road repair policy covers thousands of kilometres across districts and ensures faster, safer travel for the public.

The Road Construction Department will repair nearly 19,360 km of urban roads. Out of this, about 14,225 km are already in use, and 5,135 km are newly approved. The work will be divided into 100 packages, and 100 agencies will be selected. One agency may handle more than one package.

The government plans to spend around ₹22,956 crore on these repairs. This amount is almost four times higher than the budget of the previous OPRMC 2 scheme. Agencies must repair every defect during the seven-year maintenance period. They also need to renew the blacktop at least once, not just fill potholes.

Up to 40% of payment will be cut for negligence. The new policy will soon be sent for cabinet approval. The state wants safer, smoother roads and strict monitoring for better results.

The Bihar government has launched a new Jeevika Didi recruitment program to train women as bus drivers and conductors. The initiative aims to increase women’s participation in public transport and improve their employment opportunities. The Transport Department has already started accepting applications, and the process will continue until December 15th.

Under this plan, Jeevika Didis will receive training to operate pink buses, which run exclusively for women in cities like Patna and other major locations. These buses currently allow only women passengers, and now the government wants women to manage driving and conductor duties as well.

Interested candidates will undergo heavy motor vehicle training at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Patna or Aurangabad. After completing the course, they will be eligible for contractual jobs based on available vacancies.

The minimum qualification for applying is an eighth-grade pass. However, women who have completed 9th or 10th grade will get preference. HMV license holders will be given priority for final selection.

The government believes this step will empower women, create new job opportunities, and strengthen the pink bus service.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that Bihar will provide employment to 1 crore youth in the next 5 years. He said that the state had earlier promised 20 lakh jobs, out of which 39 lakh youth have already been employed. By the upcoming elections, this figure will cross 50 lakh.

At a workers’ conference in East and West Champaran, Nitish Kumar said Bihar is moving ahead with the Centre’s support and contributing strongly to the country’s progress. He highlighted new development schemes worth over ₹50,000 crore and assured that any gaps in infrastructure will be filled.

Nitish Kumar also underlined women’s empowerment. He recalled 50% reservation in Panchayat and Municipal polls, and 35% reservation in government jobs since 2013. Women in Bihar Police now hold the highest representation in India.

He praised the Jeevika Didi movement, started in 2006 with World Bank help. Today, 1.4 crore women are part of Jeevika, and interest rates on their loans have been cut to 7%. This, he said, has transformed women’s role in Bihar’s growth.

Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has launched the Family Benefit Card scheme ahead of Bihar elections. The focus key phrase Prashant Kishor Family Benefit Card highlights the promise of ₹20,000 monthly support for families. The campaign has quickly gained traction, with the party claiming over 50 lakh registration forms collected since August 27.

Under the Family Benefit Card, families are promised five types of benefits: ₹12,000 monthly for job security, ₹2,000 for pensions to the elderly, widows, and disabled, ₹2,500 for labor support in farming, ₹1,000 for school education, and loans of up to ₹5 lakh for women at just 4% interest along with ₹2,500 assistance. The party says only one family member needs to register for eligibility.

The scheme has stirred political debate in Bihar. RJD is promoting its own “Mai Bahin Maan Yojana” with ₹2,500 for women, while BJP’s Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary labeled Kishor’s plan as a fraud. JD(U) leader Vijay Chaudhary also dismissed it as empty promises.

Kishor, addressing public gatherings during his yatras, appealed for votes by stressing education and jobs over symbolic politics. He also hinted at contesting elections, possibly from Raghopur or his hometown Karahgar, signaling his intent for direct political entry.
