Panchayati Raj Minister said the government is open to the idea. He added that officials will move ahead only if political parties and the public support the proposal.

At present, Bihar conducts panchayat elections without party symbols. Candidates fight as individuals, not as party representatives.

If the government approves the change, local elections could become more party-driven. The current panchayat term ends in December 2026, and the next elections are likely before that. No final decision has been announced yet.

He allegedly booked hotels in Ranchi under his name to host legislators.

This investigation started after JDU MLA Sudhanshu Kumar filed a complaint on February 11, 2024. He alleged that several MLAs were offered inducements of ₹10–10 crore and ministerial positions to support the Grand Alliance during the trust vote. The FIR, registered at Kotwali police station in Patna, Bihar, was later transferred to the EOU due to the case’s sensitivity.
