CJI Gavai acknowledged his own six-month tenure and said he is committed to using every moment to strengthen the judiciary. He stressed improvement in infrastructure, judicial processes, and swift appointments to High Courts as priorities during his tenure.These remarks came at a felicitation event organized by the Friday Group, a legal education initiative at the Supreme Court. Justice Gavai was responding to senior advocate R. Basant, who suggested that Chief Justices should have fixed terms.

The CJI also reflected on his judicial journey. He recalled his six years at the Supreme Court, where he engaged in diverse cases and landmark rulings. He referred to the “bulldozer judgment” as one that gave immense satisfaction, noting it addressed human rights concerns.Justice J. Viswanathan praised CJI Gavai’s leadership, calling him an “all-rounder” in legal matters. He also commended Gavai’s ability to lead with respect and decisiveness.
