The family said 6–7 men tried to force their way into the shop. The gang sprayed black paint on three CCTV lenses and broke multiple locks while attempting to lift the shutter.

Two policemen arrived quickly after receiving the alarm. They cornered the suspects, but the gang hurled stones at them and fled into the darkness.

Police carried out an extensive search at the railway station, bus stand, and surrounding roads. Officers used a dog squad and forensic support, yet no solid lead emerged.

The incident comes amid rising robberies across Goa. Recent dacoities in Baina, Dona Paula, and Mapusa–Ganeshpuri remain unsolved. Police suspect that a Bangladeshi gang may be active, as several members reportedly escaped the State.

With similar methods seen in earlier crimes, investigators now examine whether the same organised group attempted the Canacona robbery.
