A Chandigarh Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) triggered chaos on Cambwala Road on Tuesday afternoon after driving drunk and crashing into nearly 10 vehicles. According to eyewitnesses, ASI Daljit Singh was heavily intoxicated and driving at high speed, hitting multiple cars before colliding head-on with a school bus around 12:20 PM.

The impact finally stopped his vehicle, after which angry locals surrounded him. When questioned, the ASI allegedly misbehaved and attempted to flaunt his authority. Videos recorded by bystanders show the crowd scolding him while a woman constable tried unsuccessfully to pull him out of the car. Eventually, two men dragged him out as onlookers claimed he had rammed several vehicles along the way.

The ASI suffered facial injuries and the car’s windshield shattered in the accident. Fortunately, no pedestrian or cyclist was hit, preventing a major tragedy. Sources suggest the matter was later settled privately, raising further questions about accountability within the Chandigarh Police.

Farmers Protest in Chandigarh Over Compensation as thousands of farmers assembled at Sector 43 Dussehra Ground today. The gathering, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, drew large crowds from several districts of Punjab. Farmers expressed anger over the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 and demanded immediate compensation for crops destroyed in recent floods. The issue of relief for affected farmers remained the central theme of the protest.

The protest began early in the morning as groups of farmers reached Chandigarh in tractor-trolleys, jeeps, and buses. Leaders said the government must understand the severity of crop losses and release funds without delay. They argued that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 threatens the security of free or subsidised power and may place additional financial burdens on rural households.

Meanwhile, the administration increased security across the city. Police teams monitored all entry points to ensure smooth movement and prevent any disruption. Officers also maintained a tight vigil around the protest site.

Farmer leaders announced that the agitation will continue until their demands receive a firm response. They urged the government to start talks at the earliest and assure farmers that their livelihoods will be protected.

The Chandigarh Police issues traffic advisory today for farmers so commuters can plan their travel and avoid heavy congestion.

Farmers started gathering near the borders of Chandigarh early in the morning. Therefore, the police increased deployment around Mohali, Panchkula, and the main roundabouts inside the city. Officers say they want to keep traffic steady while also allowing peaceful movement of protest groups.

Moreover, the advisory highlights several routes that will slow down during the day. Roads around Tribune Chowk, Housing Board Chowk, Sector 17, and Phase 7 Mohali may witness continuous pressure. However, commuters can choose smoother alternatives such as Madhya Marg, Dakshin Marg, and IT Park Road.

In addition, the police urged people heading to hospitals, offices, and the railway station to leave earlier than usual. They also asked motorists to follow diversion boards and cooperate with officers on duty.

Furthermore, frequent updates will appear on official social media handles throughout the day. Police teams will remain on the ground to guide travelers and prevent overcrowding at sensitive points.

Through this advisory, the administration hopes to maintain safety and reduce inconvenience for everyone on the road.

The Panjab University Violence Case took a sharp turn after Sector 11 police filed an FIR against unidentified students and outsiders. The incident occurred on November 10 during a protest near Gate No. 1. The Panjab University Violence Case report noted that protesters tried to storm the gate despite prohibitory orders.

Police said the crowd gathered under the Panjab University Bachao Morcha banner. They removed barricades, broke the gate lock, and attempted to enter the campus. Officers tried to stop them. A scuffle followed. Several policemen suffered injuries, including DSP SPS Sondhi and Inspector Rohit Kumar. Doctors at GMSH-16 treated them and later discharged them.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage, videos and photographs. They began identifying each person involved. Notices and arrests are likely soon. Officials stressed that the group included students, activists and several outsiders. Their actions disturbed the peace and blocked government officials on duty.

Police officers also said the presence of cameras and media personnel encouraged some protesters to act aggressively. The gathering later turned into an unlawful assembly. Authorities reaffirmed that maintaining order on campuses is a priority. They said strict action will follow once the investigation identifies every participant.
