Shillong travel guide November trends high this season as travellers rush to the hill city to witness its unique blend of cherry blossoms, cool weather, and vibrant festivals. With November offering the perfect mix of culture, nature, and adventure, Shillong has become one of the most recommended destinations in Northeast India right now.

As highlighted in this Shillong travel guide November update, the city’s iconic cherry blossoms are still visible in pockets across the hills. Though the official festival has concluded, visitors arriving this month can enjoy the last blush of soft pink petals adorning streets, lakes, and hill slopes.

Adding to the charm is the Shillong Literature Festival, held at Ward’s Lake from 20–22 November. Book lovers gather for panel discussions, poetry readings, storytelling events, and cultural performances—all under clear skies and crisp mountain air.

Shillong’s natural beauty is at its peak in November. Travellers can enjoy boating at Umiam Lake, treks to Shillong Peak, and visits to Elephant Falls. The Butterfly Museum remains a top attraction for families and nature enthusiasts.

Adventure seekers can rely on the Shillong travel guide November trends for recommendations such as the David Scott Trail, a 16-km scenic hike through forests, waterfalls, and meadows. Kayaking, rock climbing, and ziplining add more thrill to the trip.

Shillong’s cultural diversity—rooted in Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo traditions—is reflected in its bustling markets and café culture. Police Bazaar and Bara Bazaar offer handwoven shawls, local crafts, and delicious foods like Jadoh and Tungrymbai.

With its perfect weather, lingering cherry blossoms, and lively festivals, Shillong is best experienced in November, making now the ideal time to plan your visit.

Former MLA and Mawlai Mawroh resident John Leslee K Sangma has sharply criticised the recently concluded Cherry Blossom Festival held at Polo Grounds in Shillong, describing it as an “extremely insensitive and disrespectful act” towards residents living in and around the 3–4 km radius. The two-day music event, held on Friday and Saturday, reportedly continued well past midnight, generating loud music and fireworks that locals said shattered the peace.

Sangma stated that although he supports tourism and economic activity, the format and execution of the festival ignored community welfare, health, and statutory noise regulations. Highlighting his personal experience, he said that residents were forced to sacrifice sleep and peace over two nights due to excessively high decibel levels.

He also brought attention to Ganesh Das Hospital, located only about 2 km from the venue, where pregnant women, newborn babies, and other patients might have been severely affected due to the noise. According to him, the event displayed the government’s habitual disregard for its own rules, especially concerning night-time noise restrictions mandated under Indian law and linked to the Right to Life and Peace under Article 21 of the Constitution.

Sangma criticised the venue choice as well, noting that Polo Grounds already struggle with traffic congestion and poorly planned crowd management. Though he identified himself as a music fan, he emphasised that tourism promotion cannot justify public inconvenience, health risk, or rights violations.

He further stated that he will file a formal complaint with the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and demanded a public apology from both the Chief Minister and the Tourism Minister for the distress caused to residents.
