Law and Order in Shambles became the central charge as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal strongly criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann after the murder of sarpanch Jarmal Singh in Amritsar. Law and Order in Shambles, Badal said, now defines Punjab’s grim security situation.

Jarmal Singh, sarpanch of Valtoha village in Tarn Taran district, was shot dead during a wedding function in Amritsar. The brazen killing shocked residents and sparked political outrage across the state.

Reacting sharply, Sukhbir Badal said the incident reflected a disturbing rise in targeted killings. Moreover, he pointed out that just a day earlier a young man was shot dead in Bhinder Kalan in Moga, while a woman lost her life in a firing incident in Kapurthala on Friday.

According to Badal, criminals now operate without fear. As a result, people feel unsafe even in public gatherings. He blamed the Aam Aadmi Party government for failing to protect citizens.

Badal directly held Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann responsible, noting that he also controls the Home Department. “The Chief Minister cannot escape accountability for this collapse of law and order,” he said.

Meanwhile, SAD demanded immediate corrective steps. The party warned that continued inaction would further endanger public safety across Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday unveiled the Punjab Govt Diary Calendar 2026, marking the official release of one of the state government’s most important annual publications. The unveiling ceremony took place at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Chandigarh. The Punjab Govt Diary Calendar plays a vital role in guiding the day-to-day functioning of the state administration.

The diary and calendar serve as an essential reference tool for government officers, departments and institutions across Punjab. They contain updated information on administrative structures, key officials, public holidays, important government contacts and procedural guidelines. As a result, the publication supports smooth coordination and efficient governance throughout the year.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Information and Public Relations Department conceptualised and designed the layout of the diary and calendar. The department ensured that the content remained accurate, accessible and user-friendly. The Controller Printing and Stationery, Punjab, carried out the printing work, maintaining quality standards and timely delivery.

Senior officials attended the unveiling ceremony, reflecting the importance of the publication. Those present included Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Secretary Information and Public Relations Ramvir Singh, and Director Information and Public Relations Vimal Setia, along with other senior officers.

While addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Mann appreciated the coordinated efforts of the departments involved. He said the Punjab Govt Diary Calendar 2026 reflects the government’s commitment to organised administration, transparency and professional governance. He added that such publications help officials plan better, follow timelines and maintain accountability.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that the diary and calendar strengthen institutional memory and improve administrative efficiency. They also act as a reliable guide for officers working in the field and at the secretariat level.

The release of the Punjab Govt Diary Calendar underlines the state government’s focus on structured planning and effective governance as Punjab enters the year 2026.

Punjab’s Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, has recently inaugurated an ambitious initiative called ‘Mission Chardikala’, designed to foster progress, hope, and prosperity in the state. The mission aims to tackle several critical issues faced by the people of Punjab, including unemployment, social challenges, and infrastructure development, with a strong emphasis on community empowerment.

In his appeal to the citizens of Punjab, CM Mann called for unity and active participation in the mission. He emphasized that for true progress to occur, the efforts of the government must be complemented by the collective involvement of the people. Mann urged Punjabis to join hands in shaping the future of the state, not just through political support, but by being active agents of change in their communities.

The term “Chardikala” is often associated with a state of high spirits and positivity, reflecting the vision CM Mann has for Punjab’s future. The mission is expected to be an ongoing process aimed at creating an environment where optimism prevails over challenges, and collective progress becomes a reality. It is designed to inspire citizens to contribute towards building a more prosperous and harmonious Punjab.

Through ‘Mission Chardikala’, CM Mann hopes to create new opportunities for economic growth, youth empowerment, and social equality, ensuring that the benefits of progress reach all sections of society. This initiative is also intended to promote unity among the diverse communities of Punjab, reminding them that together, the state can overcome any obstacle.

By launching this mission, CM Bhagwant Mann has set the stage for a more optimistic and forward-looking Punjab, where every citizen is encouraged to contribute to a better and brighter future.

The search for AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra continues as Punjab Police extend their hunt across five states and Delhi. The MLA has been on the run since September 2, after escaping during a police raid in Karnal. The Punjab Police hunt for MLA Pathanmajra has now covered over 1,500 sq km, with teams from the anti-gangster task force and counter-intelligence also joining.

Police sources said Pathanmajra has completely gone off social media and is not using his phone, making the task difficult. Raids have been conducted in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, but he remains untraceable.

The MLA is wanted in a three-year-old case involving rape, cheating and criminal intimidation. His anticipatory bail plea in Patiala has been adjourned to September 10. The Haryana Police has also registered a case against him and his relative for obstruction and escape.

Pathanmajra claims he fled fearing an encounter, denying police allegations of gunfire. His arrest attempt came a day after he criticised the Mann government’s handling of Punjab’s flood relief operations.

The Punjab Police hunt for MLA Pathanmajra is expected to intensify in the coming days.
