Civil Surgeon Ferozepur Dr. Rajeev Parashar said extreme cold poses serious health risks, especially for the elderly, children, pregnant women and patients with chronic diseases.

The cold wave health advisory warns that prolonged exposure to cold can lead to hypothermia, excessive shivering, weakness, memory loss and even unconsciousness. Dr. Parashar explained that immunity weakens during winter, which increases the risk of infections and seasonal illnesses.

He advised citizens to follow a balanced diet and include vitamin C-rich foods, seasonal fruits and vegetables. People should prefer freshly cooked meals, warm water and soups, while avoiding junk food and alcohol during the cold wave.

The Civil Surgeon also appealed to residents to avoid stepping out during early mornings and late evenings. He specifically advised against taking elderly persons and children outdoors during these hours.

District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma and Deputy Mass Media Officers Ankush Bhandari and Neha Bhandari urged people to seek medical advice immediately if they experience flu, cough, cold or fever. They also stressed wearing proper winter clothing, including windproof jackets, gloves, caps and mufflers, and keeping hands and feet well covered to stay protected.
