Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on February 4, 2026, launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing the party of spreading confusion and making “illogical claims” instead of focusing on development. Speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh, he said the opposition has reduced politics to confrontation and social media noise.

Calling Congress a “tweet master party,” Saini claimed it survives on rhetoric rather than results. He argued that the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, works on delivery and governance. He also said the party is steadily expanding its political footprint not only in Haryana but also in Punjab and West Bengal.

During the interaction with the media, the Chief Minister strongly criticised the Congress for its reaction to the Union Budget. He said many leaders began opposing the budget even before the speech was completed. According to him, some leaders rushed to Twitter midway and claimed Haryana received nothing, without reading the full details.

Saini described the budget as the second one under the Modi-led Government 3.0 and said it supports the vision of Viksit Bharat. He called it comprehensive and reform-oriented for the country’s 140 crore citizens, including around 2.80 crore people of Haryana. He added that Congress opposes the budget mainly to stay in headlines, not due to ideology.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi, Saini said the Congress leadership often makes statements that show a lack of seriousness. He cited Rahul Gandhi’s remarks during a Kurukshetra visit and called them an example of irresponsible political messaging.

The Chief Minister rejected claims such as “Haryana is missing from the budget” and termed them cheap politics. In his remarks, he said Congress-era budgets encouraged “revdi culture,” while the current government focuses on long-term reforms and infrastructure.

Highlighting development work, Saini praised road construction and claimed India has progressed rapidly in infrastructure. He also compared agricultural spending, stating that allocations rose from Rs. 25,000 crore during Congress rule to Rs. 1.62 lakh crore under the Modi government.

Warning against misinformation, Saini said public discourse should be based on facts rather than viral claims. He added that the government’s vision is to make youth job creators, not job seekers.

He accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of insulting the region’s culture by refusing to wear the traditional gamosa during the President’s Republic Day “At Home” reception.

Speaking at the Khanikar Parade Ground, Shah said President Droupadi Murmu had personally presented the gamosa to all guests as a symbol of respect for the Northeast. According to him, every dignitary, including foreign representatives, accepted and wore the scarf. However, he claimed Rahul Gandhi was the only person who declined to do so.

Rahul Disrespected Northeast, Shah reiterated, adding that cultural pride remains non-negotiable under the BJP government. He stressed that as long as the BJP remains in power, it will firmly protect the identity, traditions, and dignity of the northeastern states.

Moreover, Shah accused the Congress of consistently ignoring Assam’s development needs during its years in power. He said the BJP-led government has focused on infrastructure, connectivity, and security across the region.

In addition, Shah alleged that the Congress has used illegal infiltration as a political tool to safeguard its vote bank. He argued that such policies harmed local communities and weakened national security.

Finally, Shah said the BJP’s approach aims to combine cultural respect with development, while asserting that the Northeast now occupies a central place in India’s growth story.

Great Nicobar Project Faces strong opposition from the Congress, which on Friday accused the Modi government of pushing the ambitious infrastructure plan without transparency. The party alleged that the Centre is attempting to bring private players into the project while refusing to share crucial information with the public.

Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said the Great Nicobar Project Faces serious ecological and democratic concerns. He claimed the government is “bulldozing” the project despite mounting evidence of irreversible environmental damage. According to him, large-scale development in the ecologically sensitive island could severely affect biodiversity and indigenous tribal communities.

Mr. Ramesh referred to reports suggesting that the Galathea Bay International Container Transshipment Terminal, a core component of the project, may be developed under a public-private partnership model. He alleged that the move raises questions about the government’s intent, especially when petitions related to environmental clearances remain pending before the Calcutta High Court and the National Green Tribunal.

Furthermore, he criticised the Centre for citing national security to deny public access to project details while simultaneously opening the door to corporate participation. He argued that such selective transparency reflects political convenience rather than public interest.

Earlier, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi had termed the project a “planned misadventure” that threatens tribal survival and undermines legal safeguards. However, the government has defended the project, stating that all statutory clearances are in place and the development is vital for national growth.

The Budget session of Parliament began amid criticism from the Congress, which accused the government of failing to circulate the legislative agenda on time. The party said the delay shows poor planning and lack of respect for parliamentary procedures.

Congress leaders said that during the Budget session, Members of Parliament should know in advance which Bills and issues will be discussed. They argued that the absence of a clear agenda affects meaningful debate and weakens democracy. The party demanded that the government follow established parliamentary rules.

The first part of the session will continue till February 13. During this period, Parliament will discuss and pass the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. Important debates on national and economic issues are expected during these sittings.

The government has said that the session is proceeding as scheduled and that all necessary business will be taken up. However, opposition parties remain unhappy and said transparency is essential for smooth functioning of Parliament.

Political analysts said such disagreements are common at the start of the Budget session, but timely communication can help reduce tensions. The session is seen as important ahead of key policy decisions and financial planning for the coming year.

Tensions have surfaced within the Mahagathbandhan after the Bihar election loss. RJD votes go to Congress they only cause us harm, said the Rashtriya Janata Dal while responding sharply to Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed. The RJD repeated that RJD votes go to Congress they only cause us harm, accusing its ally of blaming others instead of accepting responsibility.

The strong reaction came after Shakeel Ahmed suggested that the alliance with RJD damaged Congress politically. He claimed Congress suffered because of its partnership in Bihar.

RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari rejected the claim. He said Congress wins seats only because of RJD’s voter base. According to him, Congress lacks ground strength in Bihar and depends heavily on RJD support.

Tiwari added that Congress should focus on building its organization instead of making public accusations. He stressed that internal criticism weakens opposition unity and helps political rivals.

The exchange highlights growing discomfort within the opposition alliance after the election defeat. Leaders from both sides now face pressure to review their strategies and coordination.

Political observers say such statements could deepen cracks in the Mahagathbandhan if not addressed soon. With future elections in mind, maintaining unity may prove challenging if blame games continue.

He said the country owes deep respect to tribal communities for standing at the forefront of India’s freedom movement.

Addressing a gathering in Narmada, the Prime Minister said his government began celebrating Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to honour this heritage.

Former Telangana Minister T. Harish Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, questioning police actions before the Jubilee Hills by-election. Speaking at a community event in Erragadda, he asked why police bind over only rowdies if the Congress claims to act fairly.

Harish Rao said the Jubilee Hills election is a fight between a “Lady and a Rowdy,” referring to BRS candidate Sunitha and her rival. He asked why Naveen Yadav’s family members were bound over if they were not rowdies. He asserted that Sunitha represents not just herself but also KCR and the entire BRS party. According to him, a BRS victory would force the Congress to rethink its anti-people policies.

He accused the Congress of neglecting Hyderabad’s development. Harish Rao noted that the BRS government built 43 flyovers, while the Congress failed to lay even a small road in two years. He reminded people that Mission Bhagiratha inspired the central government’s Har Ghar Jal scheme, which still remains incomplete after eight years.

Continuing his criticism, Harish Rao alleged large-scale corruption under the Congress rule. He claimed that real estate collapsed because of high commissions demanded by the Chief Minister. He said the government is collecting 30% commissions for construction and land approvals, which is scaring investors and damaging Hyderabad’s growth.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy strategy, particularly the impact of the “Howdy Modi” outreach, in light of recent developments involving the US and Pakistan.

In a series of tweets, Ramesh pointed to actions by US President Donald Trump since mid-May 2025, noting that Trump repeatedly claimed to have mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, which unexpectedly halted Operation Sindoor. He highlighted that these statements were made 45 times across four different countries, including at the United Nations.

Ramesh also drew attention to Trump hosting Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House, despite Munir’s previous comments contributing to a “communal backdrop” surrounding the Pahalgam terror attack.

Further, he criticised Washington’s growing economic ties with Islamabad, the reported approval of a strategic defence agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, and US measures such as tariffs and H1B visa changes that have negatively affected India’s interests.

Ramesh argued that India is being singled out for its longstanding economic relationship with Russia, questioning the effectiveness of Modi’s diplomatic gestures. He asked rhetorically: “What happened to Namaste Trump? What about Howdy Modi? Where is the so-called hug diplomacy? Dost dost na raha?”

His remarks reflect growing concern among opposition leaders over India’s foreign policy approach and its handling of strategic relations with major global powers.

Puri Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati has strongly criticized the Congress over the Karnataka caste-census, saying that the Congress working to divide religion instead of uniting society. He warned that such moves could deepen social unrest and create long-term disharmony.

The seer argued that the Congress working to divide religion by using caste and community data for political gains. According to him, leaders should focus on welfare policies, education, and economic development rather than caste-based calculations.

Speaking to devotees, Nischalananda Swami said the caste-census may be projected as a tool for social justice but often serves as a political weapon. He urged people to rise above narrow divisions and strengthen cultural unity.

The remarks come at a time when the Karnataka government is facing strong opposition over the caste survey. Congress leaders have defended the exercise, claiming it will help identify underprivileged communities and ensure fair distribution of resources. However, critics believe the report may fuel caste rivalries and benefit only electoral strategies.

With religious leaders like Nischalananda Swami voicing concerns, the debate around the caste-census is likely to intensify further, placing Congress on the defensive ahead of upcoming elections.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh recently sparked controversy in Bihar. He claimed India’s 1947 partition happened on religious lines. Muslims moved to Pakistan, and Hindus stayed in India. Singh argued that if Hindus had stayed together, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav would not have risen in politics.

Singh criticized Congress and RJD for ignoring the effects of partition. He said these parties silence the history of the split and prevent future leaders from understanding it. Singh emphasized that political leaders should face historical facts.

Opposition parties, including Congress and RJD, quickly condemned his remarks. They accused Singh of using the sensitive topic for political advantage. However, Singh defended his views. He argued it is important to acknowledge the truth about India’s past.

This controversy adds fuel to the ongoing battle between the BJP and opposition parties, especially on issues related to Pakistan’s role in India’s history.
