During a brainstorming session on Monday, experts highlighted the need for a complete critical minerals ecosystem—from exploration to marketing—similar to China’s national mission approach. They said India must strengthen its supply chain to avoid future disruptions.

PHDCCI’s Anil Chaudhary praised the government for identifying 30 key minerals but suggested adding coking coal to the list. He noted that India imports 90% of its coking coal, worth nearly $15 billion yearly, a figure expected to double in the next decade. Experts also urged the government to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and encourage private investment.

Speakers called for strong inter-ministerial coordination, stockpiling, and international partnerships with resource-rich nations like Congo, Mozambique, and Afghanistan. They warned that clean energy technologies such as EVs and solar systems demand far higher mineral inputs, making strategic mineral planning vital for India’s energy future.

Kabul: Afghanistan has extended a strategic investment invitation to India in its vast rare earth and mineral sectors, estimated to be worth over $1 trillion. The Taliban-led government is seeking foreign partners to develop its lithium, iron ore, copper, and rare earth element mines, which are crucial for global energy and technology industries.

Rare earth minerals are essential for manufacturing electric vehicles, semiconductors, batteries, and defense equipment, making Afghanistan’s reserves highly valuable. The move comes amid growing global competition for critical minerals, particularly between the U.S., China, and Western nations.

Kabul believes that collaboration with India could bring advanced mining technology, infrastructure investment, and long-term trade benefits. Analysts, however, caution that political instability and security challenges may pose risks for Indian investors. Still, the offer reflects Afghanistan’s intent to diversify economic ties and leverage its natural wealth for national development.

Telangana Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced that Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) will participate in all future coal mine auctions across the country. Speaking at the Secretariat alongside MLA K. Vijaya Ramana Rao, SCCL CMD Balram, and senior officials, Bhatti said this decision was crucial as existing coal reserves were depleting and the company’s survival could be at risk in the next decade.

He criticized previous governments for skipping coal auctions, which allowed private firms to acquire blocks like Sattupalli and Koyagudem, causing a ₹60,000 crore loss to the state and ₹15,000 crore loss to Singareni. By participating in auctions, Singareni can secure new blocks and generate royalty revenue for Telangana.

Bhatti also revealed that Singareni has secured copper and gold mining licenses in Karnataka’s Raichur–Deodurg belt, with exploration to begin soon. Under the banner “ Singareni Global ,” the company plans to diversify into thermal, solar, green energy, and hydrogen sectors, positioning itself globally in mineral resources.
