The attack happened on April 6, 2010, near Tadmetla village in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Maoists ambushed security forces during an anti-Naxal operation. The assault killed 75 CRPF personnel and one state police officer.

A bench led by Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal delivered the ruling. The judges supported the earlier trial court decision that cleared the accused.

The bench called the result painful. It noted that the real attackers behind the deaths of 76 security personnel are still unknown.

In a major and surprising judgment, the Patna High Court has ruled that consensual sexual intercourse is not crime, leading to the acquittal of a man accused under the POCSO Act. The decision has sparked debate across legal and social circles.

The court observed that the relationship between the accused and the girl was consensual. Judges noted that there was no evidence of force, threat, or coercion. The girl had willingly stayed with the accused for a long period, which weakened the prosecution’s case.

According to the court, criminal law should not be used to punish consensual relationships. The bench clearly stated that consensual sexual intercourse is not crime when facts show mutual consent and absence of exploitation.

The accused was earlier convicted by a lower court. However, the High Court re-examined witness statements, medical reports, and circumstances. It found serious gaps in the prosecution’s version of events.

The judgment also warned against the misuse of strict laws like POCSO. Judges said such laws must protect genuine victims, not be applied mechanically.

Legal experts say the ruling will influence future cases. At the same time, child rights activists urge careful reading of the verdict to avoid misinterpretation.

The decision highlights the need for balanced justice, where intent, consent, and facts matter most.

The Kerala government suffered a setback as the High Court rejected its appeal against a stay on a judicial commission. The commission was set up to investigate Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials linked to the gold smuggling case.

A Single Bench had earlier stayed the commission. The state then moved the Division Bench, but the court upheld the stay. The order keeps the commission’s work suspended until further legal action.

The ED argued that the state had no authority to probe central agency officers during an active investigation. It cited the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, to support its claim. The agency said the move by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan aimed to disrupt the ongoing gold smuggling investigation.

The court agreed with the ED’s argument and dismissed the state’s appeal. This ruling limits Kerala’s legal options while the ED continues its high-profile probe. The gold smuggling case, first exposed in 2020, remains one of the state’s most politically charged controversies.

Ex-CJI Chandrachud clarifies Ayodhya verdict and Babri Masjid remark, stating that the Supreme Court’s decision was rooted in legal reasoning, not religious belief. Speaking amid a growing debate, he emphasized that the 2019 judgment on the Ayodhya land dispute relied on evidence and constitutional principles.

Ex-CJI Chandrachud clarifies Ayodhya verdict and Babri Masjid remark to address recent controversy over his comments. He explained that his reference to the “desecration” of Babri Masjid was not a personal opinion but a factual observation based on the court’s findings.

Justice Chandrachud, who was part of the five-judge bench that delivered the landmark verdict, reiterated that the judgment did not favor any faith. Instead, it resolved a complex legal dispute by analyzing historical records, archaeological reports, and legal claims.

He also stressed the importance of judicial neutrality and the need to separate personal beliefs from constitutional duties. His clarification aimed to dispel misconceptions and reaffirm the judiciary’s commitment to fairness. The Ayodhya case remains one of India’s most sensitive legal battles. Chandrachud’s remarks have reignited public discussion, but his explanation brings clarity to the court’s approach.

The court found him guilty of molesting a woman at Changi City Point mall.

Sharma had dragged a 31-year-old technology recruiter into a nursing room on March 1, 2023, where he kissed her forcefully and made repeated sexual advances despite her resistance. The victim had met Sharma for the first time that evening after a colleague shared his profile.

Sharma denied the charges, claiming the woman consented and suggested going to the nursing room. The defence argued the encounter was voluntary but escalated after a remark about her breath. The court rejected this and described Sharma’s actions as “extremely high” in sexual exploitation.

The prosecution sought a sentence of at least four years and six strokes, which was accepted by the court. Sharma faced between two and ten years of imprisonment along with caning. His lawyer had requested a lighter sentence of three to three-and-a-half years with fewer strokes.

The Supreme Court on Monday (September 22, 2025) refused to quash the money laundering case against Jacqueline Fernandez. The actor had approached the court after the Delhi High Court dismissed her plea, but the top court did not give her any relief.

Justice Dipankar Datta led the Bench that heard the matter. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Jacqueline Fernandez. He argued that the actor only received gifts from Sukesh Chandrasekhar, the key accused in the ₹200-crore money laundering case. Rohatgi claimed that investigators built the case as a cover for failed MCOCA charges, which could not stand in court earlier.

Jacqueline Fernandez repeated that she had no role in laundering money. She said her connection with Sukesh Chandrasekhar was personal and the expensive gifts should not be treated as evidence of crime. The Enforcement Directorate, however, has maintained that she gained benefits from the alleged conman. Officials claim that she accepted luxury items and financial help, which link her to the money trail.

The Supreme Court’s refusal to intervene means that ED proceedings will continue without pause. This decision is a major setback for Jacqueline Fernandez, who has tried for months to clear her name. The ruling also signals that the court wants the trial process to move forward, rather than end at the preliminary stage.

The case against Jacqueline Fernandez remains one of the most high-profile money laundering cases in Bollywood. Her legal battle has drawn wide attention from both media and the film industry. With this ruling, she now faces a long trial ahead, as the Enforcement Directorate continues to push its case.

A New York appeals court has overturned a penalty of more than $500 million against US President Donald Trump. The case was related to civil fraud charges. Trump called the ruling a “total victory” on his Truth Social platform.

The verdict came from a five-judge panel of the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. In a 323-page judgment, the court ruled that the fine was “excessive.” It also said the penalty violated the Eighth Amendment of the US Constitution, which prohibits extreme punishments.

The legal battle began in 2022. New York Attorney General Letitia James accused Trump of inflating property values and assets. She argued that the Trump Organization used those figures to secure loans and insurance benefits.

In February 2024, a trial court agreed with the Attorney General. It ordered Trump to pay more than $500 million. His sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, were also directed to pay fines.

Trump welcomed the reversal. He said the earlier judgment was “unlawful and disgraceful.” He added that it was damaging businesses across New York.

The Wall Street Journal noted that this decision is a major legal relief for Trump. It also stressed the political impact of the case.
