Manipur is hosting its largest-ever cultural showcase with the 12th Sangai Festival, attracting tourists and artists from across India and abroad. The festival, named after the state’s endangered brow-antlered deer “Sangai,” celebrates Manipur’s rich heritage, traditional arts, and natural beauty.

This edition of the festival is special for several reasons. First, it marks the return of large-scale international participation after pandemic restrictions. Second, the state government has expanded the festival venues, including Imphal’s historic Kangla Fort, Loktak Lake, and the Khuman Lampak Stadium.

The festival features vibrant cultural performances, including classical Manipuri dance, folk music, and traditional martial arts like Thang Ta. Visitors can also explore local handicrafts, handlooms, and cuisine, offering a complete cultural immersion.

Tourism Minister G. K. Ranjit Singh highlighted the festival’s role in promoting Manipur as a global tourist destination. “This year, we have curated new events and expanded our outreach to attract more international tourists. The 12th Sangai Festival reflects Manipur’s heritage and natural charm,” he said.

Eco-tourism and wildlife conservation are also key themes this year. The festival includes educational tours and exhibitions on the Sangai deer and Loktak Lake’s floating phumdis, emphasizing the importance of preserving biodiversity.

Organizers expect a record number of visitors this year, which could provide a boost to the local economy. Hotels, homestays, and local businesses are preparing for a surge in tourism.

The 12th Sangai Festival runs until the end of November, offering a unique opportunity for tourists and culture enthusiasts to experience Manipur’s living traditions, scenic beauty, and ecological heritage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised India’s Northeast, calling it the nation’s “forward face” instead of just a frontier. He responded to an article by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, who shared his experiences from visiting Assam and Meghalaya. The Prime Minister said the piece beautifully highlights the spirit and potential of the region.

In his article, Scindia described the Northeast as “Ashtalakshmi,” symbolising prosperity and strength. He wrote that improved connectivity is turning the region into India’s gateway to Southeast Asia. The minister mentioned that the natural beauty, warmth, and resilience of the people left a deep impact on him.

Scindia credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for transforming the Northeast into a hub of connectivity, culture, and commerce. He said that Modi’s vision has turned challenges into opportunities, driving inclusive development and regional pride. The minister added that the region is shifting from being landlocked to land-linked.

During his visit to Meghalaya, Scindia toured the Mushroom Development Centre in Upper Shillong. He noted that the centre produces 1.5 lakh mushroom blocks annually, boosting rural livelihoods and promoting self-reliance. The minister praised local farmers for their entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to growth.

In today’s tech-driven era, even age-old traditions are finding modern interpretations. A recent housewarming event has gone viral for its unconventional ritual. Instead of bringing a real cow into their new home as per custom, a city family used a toy cow. The video has sparked widespread discussion online.

During the ceremony, the priest recited mantras as the small plastic cow was adorned with flowers and gently guided inside the house. The family members rejoiced at the unique sight, explaining that a real cow couldn’t climb to the upper floor, prompting this innovative solution.

The video quickly spread across social media, drawing mixed reactions. Some netizens called it a “creative and practical idea,” while others lamented that “the sanctity of traditions is fading.”

However, several priests and spiritual leaders expressed concern. They emphasized that the essence of rituals lies in devotion, not convenience. “Transforming sacred customs entirely for comfort is worrying,” one scholar remarked. The video continues to stir debate on how far technology should influence traditions.

He felicitated educator Bhavya Mehta for teaching Hindi at the Britannica International Senior Secondary School. The school is the first in China’s international network to introduce Hindi classes for young students.

The Indian Consulate in Shanghai said Mehta is the daughter of war hero Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta. She has worked to promote Hindi and Indian culture among students. Several Chinese universities, including Fudan, SISU, Tsinghua, and Peking, already offer Hindi at higher levels, showing rising interest in Indian studies.

Ambassador Rawat and Consul General Pratik Mathur met Chinese scholars at the Shanghai Institutes of International Studies. They discussed global governance, multilateral reform, and India’s leadership in shaping a fair global order. The talks reflected mutual respect and cooperation between the two nations.

Later, Rawat met Indian community leaders and business professionals in Shanghai. They discussed trade, welfare, and cultural ties. The meeting celebrated the “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” spirit and highlighted the Indian diaspora’s role in strengthening international friendships.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Tuesday. The leaders exchanged warm greetings and planted a sapling before starting bilateral talks. Earlier, President Ukhnaa paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the gesture as a tribute to a “peace-loving and harmonious world.”

President Ukhnaa arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a four-day State Visit. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol received him at the airport, where he was accorded a Guard of Honour and a ceremonial welcome. This marks Ukhnaa’s first visit to India since assuming office.

During the visit, President Droupadi Murmu will host a banquet for the Mongolian President. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are expected to call on him. The visit will provide a platform to review bilateral relations and strengthen strategic cooperation.

Diplomatic ties between India and Mongolia began in 1955. Over seven decades, both countries built a close partnership across defence, energy, education, healthcare, IT, and culture. The MEA stated that India and Mongolia are “Strategic Partners, Spiritual Neighbours, and Third Neighbours,” with the visit highlighting shared values and regional and global cooperation.
