BJP Karnataka State President B.Y. Vijayendra on Wednesday accused the Congress-led government of allowing an assault on a BJP woman worker in Hubballi. He alleged that the woman was assaulted and disrobed during her arrest. Vijayendra strongly condemned the incident while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru.

He demanded immediate action against the police personnel involved. Vijayendra urged Home Minister G. Parameshwara to suspend the officers responsible. He said such incidents damage public trust in law enforcement. The BJP, he added, would not remain silent on attacks against its workers.

In a post on social media platform X, Vijayendra described the incident as disgraceful and shameful. He said the episode amounted to an attack on a woman’s dignity. According to him, the incident reflected a serious failure of governance and law enforcement in Karnataka.

The BJP leader further alleged that the state was moving towards vendetta-driven governance. He claimed that the rule of law had collapsed under the present regime. Vijayendra also accused the police of shielding a Congress corporator. He said an FIR should have been registered against the corporator instead of BJP workers. The government has not issued an official response yet.

MP Chamal Kiran Kumar Reddy criticised the Centre for holding only 15 days of Parliament sessions at a time when the country faces serious issues. Speaking in Delhi before attending the Winter Session, he said a full debate on national security must take place. He questioned the Union Home Ministry over the recent bomb threat near the Red Fort and demanded clear answers.

He accused the Centre of trying to suppress voting rights through the SIR initiative. He said Parliament must discuss the security of people and the security of democracy. Reddy also stressed the need to address health security in the national capital. He mentioned that Delhi recorded an AQI of 272 when he arrived, while it crossed 390 last week, raising major concerns.

Reddy demanded a debate on pending funds and stalled projects related to Telangana. He said the Centre has been releasing funds only to states it prefers while others wait for assistance. He alleged that Telangana has not received even a single rupee since the new government took office.

He said farmers affected by crop loss are still waiting for relief from the Centre. He accused the NDA and BJP governments of running the Winter Session like a “formality.” He added that Opposition MPs will unite to question the government on people’s issues.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang applauded President Droupadi Murmu for the historic release of the Indian Constitution translated into nine languages of the Eighth Schedule, including Nepali, on the occasion of the 76th Constitution Day.

In a social media post, CM Tamang said, “On behalf of Sikkim’s people and government, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji, for graciously releasing the Constitution in nine Eighth Schedule languages, including Nepali.” The initiative ensures greater inclusivity, linguistic diversity, and accessibility to India’s fundamental democratic values.

Sikkim recognizes four official languages: English, Nepali, Sikkimese (Bhutia), and Lepcha. By featuring Nepali among the released translations, the Indian government acknowledges Sikkim’s unique cultural and linguistic heritage. CM Tamang emphasized that the move reinforces citizens’ connection with the Constitution and promotes awareness of its core principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The Chief Minister also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for their visionary efforts in making the Constitution accessible in multiple languages. The release aligns with the Constitution Day celebration theme, “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman,” highlighting citizens’ responsibility to uphold democratic ideals.

President Murmu, during the event at Samvidhan Sadan, emphasized the significance of multilingual translations in enhancing understanding and fostering unity in India’s diverse linguistic landscape. Sikkim takes pride in being part of this historic initiative that strengthens citizens’ connection with the nation’s democratic journey.

The 23rd Law Commission has clarified to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that Parliament holds the constitutional authority to amend the five-year term of the Lok Sabha and state assemblies to facilitate simultaneous elections. In a detailed submission ahead of its December 4 briefing, the Commission stated that the terms prescribed under Articles 83 and 172 are not fixed or unchangeable, and may be altered through a constitutional amendment to achieve larger national objectives.

The Commission emphasized that the Constitution already provides flexibility—allowing premature dissolution and extension of terms during emergencies—indicating that the five-year duration is not an unalterable feature. It argued that synchronized elections, even if they require curtailing existing terms, are aimed at ensuring stability, minimizing frequent electoral disruptions, and enhancing governance efficiency.

Rejecting criticism that the proposal weakens democracy, the Law Commission asserted that it, in fact, strengthens democratic processes by reducing repeated expenditure and administrative strain caused by staggered elections. It further stressed that the right to free, fair, and periodic elections remains intact, as the proposal only seeks to align their timing.

The Commission also clarified that the proposed amendment does not require ratification by half the states and that additional powers granted to the Election Commission are an extension of its existing mandate.

A one-day workshop on the role of young voters took place at Dayanand Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Kurukshetra. The event focused on the contribution of youth to India’s democratic system. Students from different courses attended the session. They explored how elections shape the future of the country and why every vote matters.

College Principal Dr. Upasana Ahuja opened the session. She said the aim of the workshop was to build awareness among young citizens. According to her, the youth form the strongest group in the voter base. Their decisions influence policies, development work, and leadership. She added that the role of young voters becomes meaningful when they think independently and stay informed about national issues.

Speakers explained the basic steps in voter registration. They discussed how polling booths work and why free and fair elections protect democracy. The resource team also spoke about the rise of misinformation. They encouraged students to verify facts before sharing them on social media.

Group activities helped students understand real issues. Many participants listed employment, education, digital access and safety as their main concerns. Students shared their first voting experience and said they felt more confident after the workshop.

In another session, experts explained how youth participation can reduce social and political gaps. They said young voters bring new ideas and fresh energy. Their involvement strengthens accountability and transparency in government.

Faculty members encouraged students to motivate others to vote. They said awareness spreads faster when young citizens take the lead. Teachers also reminded them that democracy grows when people stay engaged throughout the year, not only during elections.

The event ended with strong participation from the students. Many felt inspired to take part in future elections. They said the workshop gave them clarity about their rights and duties. The session also helped them understand that every vote has the power to bring change.

Telangana is being shaped into a globally competitive state, said Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. He took part in the 80th Scientific Temperament Celebrations organised by Vijnan Darshini in memory of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The vision of Nehru towards science and democracy was praised during the event.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated that the Telangana government is fully committed to building a scientific society. He mentioned that Nehru not only laid a foundation for science but also strengthened democratic values to match global standards. His contribution was recognised as a major turning point for modern India.

Bhatti Vikramarka mentioned that India’s situation would have been unstable without Nehru as the first Prime Minister. Nehru identified economic, educational, agricultural and food challenges soon after Independence. His long-term planning ensured national development on scientific lines.

He also appreciated Nehru for introducing Five-Year Plans and mixed economic policies. These policies supported agricultural and industrial development, ensuring strong progress. The Deputy Chief Minister stated that scientific advancement alone can strengthen the nation and Telangana will continue to move in that direction.
