According to the commercial tax department, the Bihar VAT loss due to Iran-US-Israel war is linked to falling diesel consumption and changes in energy use across the state. Lower fuel usage directly reduced tax revenue collected from petroleum products.

Data shows the state earned ₹10,517.16 crore from petroleum products in 2024-25. This amount fell by about 4.56% to ₹10,037.38 crore in 2025-26. Officials say electricity use in farming and fewer diesel vehicles also reduced VAT collections.

Government schemes now provide cheaper electricity for farmers through special agricultural feeders. Many farmers prefer electric pumps instead of diesel engines, which also lowered fuel demand.

Officials warn the situation may continue as global tensions affect energy supply and consumption patterns.
