The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has delivered its verdict in the Thiruparankundram Karthigai Deepam case. The court heard arguments from petitioners and the Tamil Nadu government. Petitioners said law-and-order fears were speculative and could not stop religious practice.

The Tamil Nadu government raised security concerns over lighting the Deepam at the hilltop stone pillar. Officials argued that the location near the dargah required strict control. They warned that unrestricted access could create safety challenges during the ritual.

The division bench allowed the Karthigai Deepam to be lit at the hilltop pillar. The court directed temple authorities to conduct the ritual. It also ordered safeguards, restricted public access, and protection of monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India.

The court disposed of all related petitions and appeals. It instructed the district administration to ensure public safety and maintain order. Authorities must coordinate security arrangements during the event. The ruling balances religious rights with law-and-order responsibilities.

The Nagarahole Adivasi Jamma Paale Hakku Sthapana Samiti submitted the demands on January 3. The appeal followed a 13-day padayatra through forest regions in Kodagu and Mysuru.

Samiti leaders met the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru and sought a joint public meeting. They asked district collectors of Kodagu and Mysuru to attend the meeting. The gathering was demanded in a haadi with public participation. Leaders warned of forest checkpost blockades if no response comes within seven days.

The group raised two key demands during the talks. Full implementation of forest rights formed the primary demand. Members also called for an end to tiger safaris on traditional lands. They said such activities damage livelihoods and cultural ties to the forest.

The padayatra began on December 21, 2025, at Tithimathi in Kodagu district. It ended on January 2 at Kerehaadi in Mysuru district. Adivasis from 52 haadis walked through 29 villages. Leaders said the march strengthened awareness and unity among forest communities.

Telangana Minister Seethakka confirmed that local body elections will be held using the old reservation pattern. She said the notification may be released before December 11. The Gram Panchayat elections will be conducted first, followed by MPTC and ZPTC polls. She stated that timely elections are important to prevent the loss of central funds expected in March.

The minister added that the reservation structure from the previous government will continue. She said 27% reservation will apply as per government norms. The party will follow 42% reservation in its internal structure. She explained that the government wants a smooth election process without delays or disputes.

Seethakka announced that Indiramma sarees will be delivered door-to-door. She said the sarees are being provided to support women directly. A foundation stone for a shopping complex was laid at Bhikkanur Market Yard. Seethakka criticised the BRS for spreading misleading claims online. Sarees were later distributed at the event.

A villager complained about pending bills under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. Seethakka instructed officials to clear the issue immediately. Senior district officials attended the programme. The minister said the government remains committed to welfare schemes and transparent administration.

Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Bhuvanesh Patil urged officials to speed up the multi-village drinking water project in the district. He stressed this point twice as he reviewed the progress and told teams to complete every stage within the planned deadline. He said the drinking water project plays a crucial role in improving daily life in rural communities.

The district is developing a large-scale plan to supply drinking water to 388 villages. The administration chose the DBOT (Design, Build, Operate, Transfer) model to make the project efficient and transparent. Patil explained that this model helps teams maintain quality, reduce delays, and keep long-term operations smooth.

During the meeting, he asked engineers and contractors to remove bottlenecks quickly. He also instructed field staff to monitor each site regularly and report issues before they slow down the schedule. Patil added that advanced planning and timely coordination will help villages receive reliable drinking water without interruptions.

He noted that the project supports health, education, and economic activity across the district. Clean water, he said, directly contributes to better living standards and reduces the pressure on families who currently depend on irregular sources.

Patil concluded that Dharwad must treat this project as a top priority and deliver it with accuracy and urgency.

During a meeting at the Pingali Venkaiah Hall, district collector Dr G Lakshmisha discussed the implementation of the NIRD–Kesineni Foundation MoU.

Sivanath emphasized employment generation as crucial for achieving Viksit Bharat and Swarnandhra 2047 goals. He added that self-help groups (SHGs) will receive skill development training in collaboration with NIRD. Furthermore, essential machinery will be supplied for seed banks, tribal clothing, jewellery design, product expansion, and vermicompost preparation.

He requested support from the district administration to establish common facility centres at A Kondur and Jakkampudi, areas with significant SC/ST populations. Meanwhile, NIRD Director General Dr G Narendra Kumar explained the Rural Prosperity & Rural Resilience programme. He highlighted that SHGs will gain training under the “One Family-One Entrepreneur” initiative. Additionally, micro-enterprises will expand through SHG clusters, receiving orders from major companies to boost economic growth.

Collector Lakshmisha confirmed steps to build the centres and prepare a Detailed Project Report for A Kondur. He noted that 25 out of 40 aspirational block indices have reached saturation. Consequently, A Kondur will develop following the successful models. Several district officials attended the programme, and discussions focused on practical steps for rural empowerment.

The Muktsar Arhtiya Association dispute has come into the open. Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, MLA from Malout, appointed Manjinder Singh Kaka Urang as president on Friday. On the same issue, Muktsar MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar announced Jagsir Singh Charna as president at a Muktsar grain market gathering, claiming he was unanimously elected by arhtiyas.

Kaka Urang said he was appointed by Dr Baljit Kaur and accompanied by arhtiyas from Malout. He added, “What can I say if the MLA also appointed Charna? He will have a different style.”

Charna responded, “Arhtiyas from across the district elected me unanimously, and Kaka Brar congratulated me.”

Dr Baljit Kaur told The Tribune that some arhtiyas approached her, and she appointed Kaka Urang. She noted that she had no issues with Kaka Brar. Meanwhile, Kaka Brar said the arhtiyas elected Charna unanimously.

Locals claim the dispute arose because the minister did not consult the MLA, causing objections among some arhtiyas. The Kacha Arhtiya Association links commission agents with district administration but has no formal office.
