Meanwhile, Telangana has taken a firm stand on the revised project. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the state will file objections in the Supreme Court against the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar proposal. He said that Andhra Pradesh ignored Telangana’s water concerns, and therefore legal action became necessary.

Additionally, the Telangana government requested senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi to argue the case in the Supreme Court. The minister confirmed that Singhvi agreed to represent the state. This step signals a more aggressive approach to protecting Telangana’s water rights.

Furthermore, Telangana Bhavan in Delhi will host a preparatory meeting tomorrow at noon to discuss the strategy for the case. Later, at 2:30 PM, Uttam Kumar Reddy will meet Singhvi to finalise the legal plan. The government aims to prevent any project that impacts Telangana’s share of Krishna river water.

AP’s Water Resources Department wrote that projects need approval from the CWC, Apex Council and KRMB. The department asked the Centre to stop any new construction until all permissions are completed. Officials claim that these new works may affect AP’s share of Krishna water. They therefore requested the Centre not to grant any approvals for now.

Sources say AP informed the Centre that its interests may face harm if Telangana moves ahead. They also stated that AP expects the Centre to issue clear instructions soon. An official statement from AP is yet to be released.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh had planned the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project with an estimated cost of Rs 80,000 crore. Telangana strongly opposed this plan, stating it would harm state interests. The government resolved not to release any portion of its Godavari share. Legal and administrative measures were initiated to block the project. Meetings with central ministers and MPs were conducted to convey objections.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar personally met Union Minister CR Patil in Delhi. They also briefed party MLAs with a detailed presentation, highlighting the project’s potential violations. The Centre subsequently rejected Andhra Pradesh’s environmental clearance applications for the original project.

Despite previous cancellations, Andhra Pradesh renamed the project and revived it as Polavaram-Nallamala Link Project. Tenders have been invited for DPR preparation, prompting Telangana to prepare countermeasures. The state has affirmed it will prevent the project from proceeding under any circumstances.

Sivanath emphasized employment generation as crucial for achieving Viksit Bharat and Swarnandhra 2047 goals. He added that self-help groups (SHGs) will receive skill development training in collaboration with NIRD. Furthermore, essential machinery will be supplied for seed banks, tribal clothing, jewellery design, product expansion, and vermicompost preparation.

He requested support from the district administration to establish common facility centres at A Kondur and Jakkampudi, areas with significant SC/ST populations. Meanwhile, NIRD Director General Dr G Narendra Kumar explained the Rural Prosperity & Rural Resilience programme. He highlighted that SHGs will gain training under the “One Family-One Entrepreneur” initiative. Additionally, micro-enterprises will expand through SHG clusters, receiving orders from major companies to boost economic growth.

Collector Lakshmisha confirmed steps to build the centres and prepare a Detailed Project Report for A Kondur. He noted that 25 out of 40 aspirational block indices have reached saturation. Consequently, A Kondur will develop following the successful models. Several district officials attended the programme, and discussions focused on practical steps for rural empowerment.
