Acting on specific inputs regarding the movement of narcotics between Seling and Aizawl, a joint team intercepted a suspicious vehicle on National Highway-6 around 10:30 p.m. on November 21. Although no contraband was recovered during the initial search, the interrogation of the occupants revealed that a narcotics consignment was expected to be collected inside Aizawl later that night.

Following that information, the team escorted the suspects to a suspected hideout located in Chandmari West. Around 4:30 a.m., in the presence of independent witnesses, officers conducted a search of the premises and discovered two more individuals inside. During questioning, the suspects voluntarily produced two bags containing a large quantity of illegal substances.

Officials confirmed the recovery of six packets of suspected methamphetamine weighing 5.89 kg, along with three soap cases of suspected heroin weighing 41 grams. The seized haul has been valued at ₹4,79,66,500 based on prevailing illegal market estimates.

All four individuals were arrested on the spot. The seized narcotics, along with the accused, have been handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further investigation and prosecution. According to authorities, the success of the raid was the result of efficient coordination, real-time intelligence sharing and seamless cooperation between state and central enforcement teams.

Security agencies say such operations are crucial as Mizoram continues to face challenges posed by cross-border drug smuggling from Myanmar. The BSF reiterated that it will intensify surveillance and maintain pressure on organised trafficking cartels operating in the region.

Officials revealed that the seized heroin is estimated to be worth several crores of rupees, making this one of the largest drug busts in recent times in the Northeast. The arrested individual is under interrogation to trace the source of the narcotics and uncover potential links to larger drug networks operating across the region.

The operation was conducted following actionable intelligence regarding the movement of illicit heroin through remote areas in Assam. NCB and BSF teams coordinated a precise raid, ensuring the seizure and arrest were carried out successfully without any casualties. Authorities praised the inter-agency collaboration, noting its importance in combating cross-border drug trafficking.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma applauded the operation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to tackling the drug menace. He stated that strict measures would continue to prevent narcotics trafficking and protect the youth from substance abuse.

The seizure is expected to disrupt heroin supply chains in the Northeast, where organized criminal networks have increasingly exploited border regions for smuggling. Investigators are now working to identify accomplices and trace the origin of the consignment to dismantle the network completely.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. This operation underscores the proactive measures taken by Assam’s law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking, safeguard public health, and strengthen border security.
