The drivers stated that their salaries have remained unchanged for the past two years. At present, they earn between ₹9,000 and ₹10,000 per month. They argue that rising inflation has made it difficult to support their families, leading to growing dissatisfaction.

The demand has gained momentum after ECL issued new tenders for private vehicles in the Kunustoria area. According to the drivers, the revised tenders offer higher daily rental rates to vehicle owners. They say this increase should also reflect in their monthly wages, as drivers bear the operational burden.

The drivers have approached their association, seeking intervention and a fair revision of pay. They emphasised that long working hours and responsibility deserve better compensation.

Responding to the issue, Owners and Drivers Association secretary Deepak Das supported the drivers’ demand. He said the concern is genuine and assured timely action. Das announced that a joint meeting of drivers and vehicle owners will be convened soon. He added that discussions during the meeting will decide the next steps on salary revision. Until then, drivers remain hopeful of relief.
