The government said India has 18 biosphere reserves spread across forests, mountains, islands, and coastal regions. Among them, 13 are part of UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves. These regions showcase India’s long-term dedication to preserving nature and supporting local communities.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change runs a centrally sponsored scheme for biodiversity conservation. It provides funds to states for nature protection and sustainable development projects, implemented mainly by State Forest Departments.

Projects like Tiger, Elephant, and Green India Mission continue to strengthen ecological balance and community welfare. With rising forest cover and innovative conservation models, India remains a global example of sustainable living and responsible environmental management.
