O. Panneerselvam ready to rejoin AIADMK and has clearly stated that unity remains the only path forward for the party. Speaking on Thursday, January 29, 2026, he said the decision now lies with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

After meeting supporters at his native place, Periyakulam in Theni district, Panneerselvam underlined the urgent need for reconciliation. According to him, internal divisions continue to weaken the party’s organisational base. Therefore, he urged leaders to rise above differences and work together.

Moreover, he said all factions of the AIADMK must come together to regain public confidence. He added that unity would help the party emerge as an undefeatable political force in Tamil Nadu. At the same time, he stressed that dialogue, not confrontation, should guide the process.

Currently, Panneerselvam serves as the coordinator of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Workers’ Rights Retrieval Kazhagam (AIADMWRRK). However, he clarified that the organisation does not oppose the AIADMK. Instead, it focuses on protecting the rights and dignity of party cadres.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that a legal battle continues to restore internal democracy within the AIADMK. In addition, he said the fight aims to strengthen the party structure. He repeatedly emphasised that cadres form the backbone of the organisation.

Furthermore, Panneerselvam appealed to senior leaders to prioritise the party’s future over personal ambitions. He noted that leadership disputes often confuse grassroots workers. As a result, electoral prospects also suffer.

Political observers, meanwhile, see his statement as a crucial development amid ongoing leadership debates. With key elections ahead, the AIADMK faces pressure to reorganise and present a united front.

Ultimately, by expressing his willingness to rejoin, Panneerselvam signalled a conciliatory approach. Consequently, his remarks may pave the way for renewed discussions within the party. If dialogue progresses positively, the AIADMK could soon witness a major political realignment.

Former Tamil Nadu Minister and senior AIADMK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan has set a 10-day deadline for AIADMK unity talks, urging the party leadership to bring back key figures who left the organization. Sengottaiyan believes this step is vital for reviving the party’s strength and preparing for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.

Speaking in Gobichettipalayam, the nine-time legislator said that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami holds the authority to decide who should return. However, he stressed that leaders who had once held major responsibilities must be reinstated. Sengottaiyan warned that if the leadership does not act in time, like-minded leaders will unite independently to restore the party’s unity.

To reinforce his point, Sengottaiyan recalled the party’s history. Both M.G. Ramachandran, AIADMK’s founder, and his successor Jayalalithaa, welcomed back rebel leaders like S.D. Somasundaram and Kalimuthu, despite earlier criticism. He said this was done to protect the party’s unity and ensure its electoral success.

With Assembly elections less than a year away, Sengottaiyan’s demand for urgent AIADMK unity talks highlights growing pressure on the leadership. Political observers believe that internal unity could decide whether the AIADMK can reclaim its past glory and remain a strong contender against the ruling DMK.

For now, all eyes are on Edappadi K. Palaniswami and whether he will respond to Sengottaiyan’s 10-day ultimatum. The coming days could shape the future course of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu politics.
