The Edpugallu Vanadurga temple in Papannapet mandal, famous as India’s second Vanadurga shrine, has remained flooded for 20 days. Linked to King Janamejaya’s serpent sacrifice, the shrine now struggles as Singur project gates continue to release heavy water flow.

The constant water release from Singur flooded the Vanadurga project near the shrine. Strong currents now block the temple entrance and one of the seven river inlets. As a result, pilgrims cannot reach the sanctum.

Authorities closed the temple on August 14 for safety. To ensure worship continues, priests placed the festival idol of Vanadurga Mata at the Rajagopuram. Devotees now offer prayers there, fulfilling vows in front of the temporary shrine.

Temple priests confirmed that darshan at the sanctum will resume once the water recedes. Until then, officials monitor water levels and guide devotees to the Rajagopuram for blessings. This arrangement ensures that faith remains unbroken despite the floods.
