These villages, located along the foothills of Imphal East and bordering Kangpokpi district, remain sensitive due to previous ethnic clashes between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Authorities continue to assess the security situation before permitting large-scale returns.

The incident underscores the tension between security concerns and humanitarian rights, as IDPs press for immediate returns while the government seeks to maintain stability. Advocates emphasize that prolonged displacement not only affects economic livelihood but also increases social and psychological distress.

With thousands still living in relief camps, there is growing pressure on state and central authorities to provide clear resettlement plans and ensure safe, structured returns. The clash also raises questions about balancing public narratives of normalcy with the ongoing plight of displaced communities.
