The Telangana SIR Process has entered a crucial stage as election authorities prepare to update and verify voter records across the state. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) aims to ensure that every eligible voter remains on the electoral rolls while removing duplicate or incorrect entries.

Under the Telangana SIR Process, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification from June 25 to July 24. Voters will receive enumeration forms and must provide accurate details to keep their names on the voter list. Officials said most voters will not need additional documents unless discrepancies arise.

Election officials have already held awareness meetings with political parties and local representatives. The exercise is designed to create a clean and updated electoral database ahead of future elections.

The draft electoral roll will be published on July 31. Citizens can submit claims and objections until August 30. Authorities plan to release the final electoral roll on October 1. Officials have urged voters to cooperate with BLOs and complete the process on time.

Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin expressed strong confidence about the DMK’s prospects in the 2026 assembly election. He said the party could secure at least 2.5 crore votes due to the government’s welfare initiatives. During a video conference with district secretaries, he noted that 1.86 crore people benefited directly from the schemes. Stalin added that neutral voters now view the party more positively.

The chief minister compared the current support with the 2021 election, when the DMK secured 2.09 crore votes. He said the combination of beneficiaries, committed cadres, and neutral voters would create a stronger vote base. Stalin asked party leaders to stay alert despite favourable conditions. He warned that opposition parties may use central agencies and misinformation campaigns.

He urged district functionaries to ensure that eligible voters remain on the electoral rolls. Stalin said the party faced difficulty during the special intensive revision process but must continue its efforts. He stressed the importance of verifying every booth and reaching every household.

Stalin also encouraged cadres to participate in the “My Booth, Victorious Booth” meetings. He said he would take part in the meeting at his Teynampet booth. He told party workers to ensure no eligible voter is excluded.

Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ease SIR norms for the Matua community in West Bengal. In his detailed letter, he said the Matuas cannot meet the tough documentation requirements under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

He stressed that many Matua families migrated from erstwhile East Pakistan after facing severe persecution. According to him, they never possessed the old documents that officials now demand. He warned that forcing them to meet these requirements creates fear and risks disenfranchisement. He repeated that the need to ease SIR norms is urgent because many names are missing from the 2002 voters’ list, the SIR base year.

Chowdhury also highlighted the recent hunger strike by the All India Matua Mahasangha. Members staged a fast-unto-death to draw attention to their uncertain future and the pressure created by the verification drive. He said the strike ended only because they hoped the government would listen.

He argued that the Matuas have voted for decades and produced elected representatives. Yet, citizenship assurances have not materialised. He urged the Centre to show sympathy, extend relief similar to the CAA amendments, and protect the community’s rights without fear or hardship.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a strict action against booth-level officers (BLOs) in West Bengal. The move follows serious irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Officials said FIRs have been filed against eight booth-level agents (BLAs) for interfering in form distribution and taking control from BLOs.

At the same time, the commission issued show-cause notices to eight BLOs for violating norms. They allegedly used shortcut methods for distributing enumeration forms from one place instead of visiting homes. Despite an earlier warning, these officers from Cooch Behar, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas repeated the violation, prompting further action.

The ECI directed all Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant EROs to monitor BLOs closely. It warned that handing over forms to third parties, including relatives or friends, would be treated as a serious breach of conduct. The commission stressed that the process must strictly follow ECI guidelines.

Over four crore enumeration forms were distributed by Saturday evening. The total number of voters in West Bengal stands at 7.66 crore. The commission aims to complete distribution by the end of this month, continuing its drive for accurate electoral rolls.

All state Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) have been instructed to have updated voter lists ready, incorporating revisions based on previously published electoral rolls, by *September 30*.

Sources indicate that the SIR process may officially commence between *October and November*. This exercise aims to ensure that voter lists are accurate and comprehensive ahead of upcoming elections, removing discrepancies and including newly eligible voters.

The process has already been implemented in *Bihar*, where opposition parties raised concerns, alleging that eligible voters were being removed from the rolls. The EC’s nationwide initiative seeks to streamline electoral rolls, enhance transparency, and prevent voter disenfranchisement. Authorities have been urged to follow the directives strictly, ensuring a fair and impartial revision process, reinforcing confidence in the electoral system.

Officials indicated the process may begin in October, soon after the Bihar assembly elections conclude.

On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar met Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from all states and union territories. The three-and-a-half-hour meeting included multiple presentations. The session discussed the strategy, timelines, and preparations required for the SIR process. The proposal reportedly received approval during the workshop.

The Election Commission instructed CEOs to finalize a list of documents that voters can use for verification. These papers must be simple, locally accepted, and easily available. States were also advised to consider multiple factors before fixing the verification procedure. The commission clarified that the main aim of the SIR is to remove the names of deceased persons and migrants from the rolls.

Officials assured that groundwork for the revision would be completed by the end of this month. The exercise is expected to ensure cleaner, more accurate electoral rolls ahead of upcoming state and national elections, strengthening the transparency and credibility of the democratic process.
