The movement has started receiving strong political backing. Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, RLP chief Hanuman Beniwal, and Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas have extended support.

Khachariyawas launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led state government. He said the Khejri tree is not just a plant but the soul and cultural identity of Rajasthan. He warned that if the government fails to change its stand, Congress will intensify the movement across the state.

He accused the government of weakening existing strict laws related to tree cutting. According to him, such policy changes are putting life-supporting trees like Khejri at serious risk. He said development cannot come at the cost of environmental destruction.

Khachariyawas also highlighted the ecological value of the Khejri tree. He explained that its leaves feed livestock, its branches provide fuel, and the tree regenerates naturally. He called it the backbone of Rajasthan’s rural life cycle.

He said Congress stands firmly with the people and will not allow public sentiments to be ignored.

According to a senior police official, three to four personnel suffered burns and inflammation caused by the pepper spray and were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.

The protest began peacefully as several citizens gathered near India Gate to voice concerns about the unchecked pollution levels and urge authorities to implement stronger control measures. However, tensions escalated when some protesters entered the C-Hexagon area and attempted to breach barricades placed to regulate movement.

Police said they repeatedly asked the demonstrators to step back, explaining that several ambulances and medical vehicles were stuck behind the protest site and urgently needed access. Despite warnings, some protesters became increasingly agitated, leading police personnel to anticipate a possible confrontation.

As the officers attempted to clear the area, members of the group reportedly used pepper spray on them, causing immediate chaos. The injured policemen were assisted by colleagues and transported for medical care.

Authorities later dispersed the crowd and restored movement in the area. An investigation has been initiated to identify the individuals responsible for the pepper spray attack.

The incident highlights growing public frustration over Delhi’s hazardous air quality, even as law enforcement deals with rising tensions during environmental demonstrations.

The fishermen have been staging relay hunger strikes for 39 days, demanding that the government withdraw the project and protect their traditional occupation. Extending support, YSRCP leaders announced a “Chalo Rajayyapeta” protest as per the call given by party president and former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. District president Gudivada Amarnath urged party cadres to join the agitation and stand with the families of fishermen.

Meanwhile, to prevent escalation, police forces have been deployed in large numbers and strict security measures are in place across the region.
