The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 20.36 lakh new employees to its payroll in July, an increase of 4.86% from June’s 19.37 lakh, according to the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Young workers under 25 accounted for over 48% of these new registrations.

In July, 31,146 new establishments were brought under the social security umbrella of the ESI Scheme. This move extends benefits like financial protection and medical care to more workers across factories, shops, hotels, and educational institutions.

The gender analysis revealed that 4.33 lakh of the total registrations were female employees. Additionally, 88 transgender employees were enrolled, reflecting ESIC’s commitment to inclusive social security coverage for all sections of society.

The ESI Scheme provides financial and medical benefits in cases of sickness, maternity, disablement, and employment-related death. The payroll data is provisional, as employee registration is a continuous process. Comparatively, in June, around 49.5% of new employees were below 25 years of age, indicating sustained youth participation in the workforce.
