The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in multilateralism and global governance.

Alongside Brazil’s Minister Mauro Vieira Juan and Mexico’s Foreign Secretary Ramon de la Fuente, Kallas met EU foreign ministers on Monday. She emphasized that the EU supports multilateralism, free trade, and a world guided by the UN Charter.

Jaishankar highlighted that the meeting provided an opportunity for an open exchange of views on India-EU ties, global conflicts including Ukraine and Gaza, trade, energy, and multilateral cooperation. Kallas added that relations with Brazil, India, and Mexico are crucial for protecting the rules-based international order.

The EU recently unveiled a new strategic blueprint to deepen ties with India. The plan focuses on five pillars: trade, investment, technology and sustainability; defence and security; connectivity and global issues; and labour mobility coordination. Closer engagement aims to strengthen economic growth, security, and cooperation amid evolving geopolitical realities.

The European Union (EU) has unveiled a new strategic roadmap for India, placing special emphasis on trade, technology partnerships, and defence cooperation. The move signals a strengthening of ties between New Delhi and Brussels at a time when global geopolitics is undergoing rapid change.

According to EU officials, the roadmap aims to accelerate negotiations on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which has been pending for years. Both sides are expected to push for greater market access, smoother investment flows, and a stronger focus on supply-chain resilience. Analysts say that concluding the FTA could unlock significant opportunities for Indian exporters while also attracting more European investors into the country.

Technology cooperation forms the second major pillar of the roadmap. The EU is keen on working with India in areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and green technologies. Joint research initiatives and technology-sharing mechanisms are expected to feature prominently in upcoming rounds of dialogue.

Defence and security cooperation also occupy a central place. The EU has outlined plans to engage more closely with India on maritime security, counter-terrorism, and joint military training, given the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific. Officials have stressed that India is viewed as a key partner in maintaining a stable and rules-based order in the region.

The new roadmap also highlights cooperation in climate action, clean energy, and sustainable development. Brussels and New Delhi plan to expand partnerships in renewable energy and carbon-reduction strategies, reflecting their commitments to the Paris Agreement.

Indian officials welcomed the roadmap, calling it a “forward-looking framework” that aligns with India’s ambitions in global trade and technology. Observers believe the initiative could significantly deepen India-EU ties and position the two sides as stronger strategic partners in the coming decade.
