Companies including Honda, Yamaha, Fujitsu and Toray Industries expressed serious interest. Honda and Yamaha are exploring EV and two-wheeler component plants, while Fujitsu and Toray are assessing opportunities in IT and advanced materials. JICA and JBIC discussed soft loans for infrastructure and smart-city projects.

Mann said Japanese firms showed “tremendous enthusiasm,” adding that upcoming investments could create thousands of jobs and boost Punjab’s economy. The 10-day Japan–South Korea mission aims to attract FDI and reduce youth unemployment.

Punjab has prepared new industrial parks in Mohali, Ludhiana and Amritsar, along with special subsidies for EV and semiconductor projects and a 15-day single-window approval system. With existing ties such as Swaraj-Yamaha and Maruti-Suzuki, Punjab is expecting a new wave of Japanese industrial growth.

If plans progress, major Japanese and Korean plants may begin operations in Punjab within the next two to three years.
