The Trusted Traveller Programme already operates at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. With this expansion, passengers from more cities can now enjoy faster immigration clearance.

The service allows Indian passport holders and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) to register online, provide biometric details such as facial and fingerprint scans, and use automated e-gates at airports. Once approved, travellers can bypass long queues as the system automatically verifies their identity.

Officials highlighted that this move will reduce waiting times and improve convenience for frequent international travellers. Amit Shah said the programme strengthens both passenger comfort and national security through advanced biometric checks. He added that modernizing immigration systems is crucial for making India’s airports world-class.

The government also plans to extend the facility to foreign nationals in the future. With rising international traffic from tier-2 cities, expanding this programme to regional airports will help manage passenger flow more efficiently while ensuring strict security standards.
