Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh met Google CEO Sundar Pichai in the United States. He reviewed the progress of the upcoming Google AI Data Center in Visakhapatnam. Lokesh also requested Google to set up a drone assembly unit in the state’s proposed Drone City. He expressed happiness as Google planned investments of 15 billion dollars in Visakhapatnam. Senior Google leaders, including Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and Global Networking Vice President Bikash Koley, joined the discussions.

Sundar Pichai said Google was expanding cloud regions across India. He added that Google for Startups Accelerators continued to support Indian startups. Pichai stated that the 15-billion-dollar AI Data Center in Visakhapatnam would become the largest non-US FDI from Google. He also mentioned a new agreement with Foxconn in Chennai. Under this collaboration, Google drone wings will be manufactured in India. He assured Lokesh that Google would study the proposals and make a positive announcement soon.

Lokesh also met Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. He requested the setup of an Adobe GCC Center in Andhra Pradesh. During his tour, he met Zoom President Shankaralingam and sought a development center in the state. He urged Intel CTO Shesha Krishnapura to consider an AI Research Center in Amaravati.

Lokesh also held talks with Nvidia’s Enterprise and Cloud Sales leader Raj Mirpuri. He requested the launch of a Smart Factory pilot project in Andhra Pradesh. He encouraged partner companies to explore investment opportunities in the state.

Foreign investors are rapidly increasing their presence in India’s financial sector, driven by the country’s success in converting millions of unbanked citizens into a data-rich market. A report by Sunday Independent urged African nations to follow a similar model for inclusive digital growth.

India’s digitally-driven transformation has attracted major players like Citigroup, Barclays, and MUFG, despite challenges such as trade headwinds and account dormancy. With 89% adult account penetration and 25% dormancy, investors are leveraging fintech innovations and data-based credit scoring to reach new consumers.

The shift from a cash-based economy to a digital ecosystem has unlocked economic potential across sectors. Every transaction now generates valuable data, helping lenders design microloans, insurance, and savings products for low-income users through platforms like Paytm and PhonePe using UPI technology.

The report highlighted that India’s inclusive digitisation has reduced transaction costs and boosted financial usage, leading to over $50 billion in FDI inflows during 2024–25. The publication suggested Africa could replicate India’s success by investing in digital infrastructure and using innovation to reduce account inactivity.

The company aims to prove compliance with India’s security and technical standards before starting commercial services.

Officials said Starlink will use provisional spectrum for these runs. Law enforcement teams will observe the trials to verify the company’s compliance with the GMPCS authorisation rules. These demos mark a key step toward Starlink’s entry into the Indian satellite broadband market.

India now allows full foreign investment in the satellite communication sector. Over ten players, including Reliance Jio-SES and Bharti’s OneWeb, have joined the market.
The Indian government said Starlink must store all user data and network traffic within the country. The move aligns with India’s data security policy.
The pact, effective from October 1, expands market access for goods and services while promoting ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
The four EFTA nations — Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein — pledged $50 billion FDI in 10 years and another $50 billion later.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that the ‘Make in India’ initiative has transformed the country into a global manufacturing hub under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Launched 11 years ago, the scheme aimed to revive India’s manufacturing strength.

Goyal highlighted record foreign direct investment inflows, improved ease of doing business, India becoming the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally, rising exports, and expanding defence production as key achievements. The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme has attracted investments and generated employment.

He noted that India’s startup ecosystem, driven by youth and women, has made the country the world’s third-largest innovation hub. Goyal emphasized that the journey was possible due to the efforts of industries, MSMEs, startups, entrepreneurs, and citizens embracing the Swadeshi spirit.

To further boost the initiative, Goyal launched new DPIIT initiatives to improve industry efficiency and a globally competitive logistics ecosystem. He also unveiled Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0, promoting India’s digitally empowered and export-ready economy. He stated that the next phase of ‘Make in India’ will advance Aatmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat, while the nation’s indigenous defence production continues to grow.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday (September 18, 2025) told India Inc. to do not hesitate to invest more and expand capacities. She said companies must use government reforms and policies to strengthen India’s economy.

Speaking at the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) symposium, Ms. Sitharaman stressed that building a Viksit Bharat requires strong quality management. According to her, both manufacturing and service sectors need focused interventions. Moreover, businesses should identify areas where improvements will deliver the greatest results.

She also urged India Inc. to partner with the government in skilling youth. In addition, she asked companies to engage with policymakers throughout the year. Engagement, she said, should not be limited to the period before the Union Budget.

When Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran asked about her expectations, she gave three clear priorities. First, invest more to expand capacities. Second, collaborate with the government in preparing India’s youth. Third, keep year-round communication open with policymakers.

Furthermore, Ms. Sitharaman underlined several initiatives that promote growth. These include ease of doing business, tax benefits, better policies, and increased FDI opportunities. “Today, I have a basket of things on which the government has delivered,” she said. She added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently driven reforms and supported industry demands.

Therefore, Ms. Sitharaman concluded by asking India Inc. to seize opportunities, invest boldly, and join hands with the government. As a result, she said, the nation can achieve sustained growth and greater global competitiveness.
