Private colleges across Telangana have continued their statewide shutdown for the second day, demanding the release of pending fee reimbursement funds from the government. More than 2,000 private degree, engineering, and postgraduate colleges joined the bandh that began on Monday. College managements said that dues worth several crores are pending, causing financial distress to educational institutions. Representatives, faculty, and students submitted petitions at Ambedkar and Indira Gandhi statues while staging protests.

Meanwhile, BC student associations have extended support to the private colleges’ movement. They announced plans to stage a siege at the Education Department offices if the government fails to release the dues immediately.

Student leaders warned that if the state government delays payment any further, they would intensify protests across Telangana. They stressed that both colleges and students are suffering due to the delay, with many institutions struggling to manage salaries and maintenance costs.

College associations urged the Telangana government to act swiftly and release the pending reimbursement amount to ensure the smooth functioning of educational institutions. They cautioned that prolonged neglect could lead to larger state-wide agitations in the coming days.

Telangana is witnessing growing unrest over pending fee reimbursements and scholarships for students. Educational institutions and student groups have expressed strong dissatisfaction over delays in government payments, which involve crores of rupees. The Federation of Private Engineering Colleges announced a statewide college strike from November 3, demanding immediate release of pending fees.

The SFI (Students Federation of India) also condemned colleges for withholding certificates from students due to pending reimbursements. They announced a statewide strike on October 30, insisting certificates should be provided immediately without delays. Authorities have been urged to take strict action against institutions harassing students for pending fees.

Previously, engineering colleges had marked “Engineers’ Day” as a “Black Day” to protest delayed reimbursements. Key meetings with leaders from various political parties are scheduled on November 1 to address the issue. Representatives confirmed that official notices regarding the strike will be submitted to the government today.

The strike call by SFI has become a hot topic. With student groups and college management protesting simultaneously, pressure is mounting on the Telangana government. Immediate government intervention is expected to resolve pending reimbursements and meet the demands of students and institutions.

Student union leaders accused private engineering and professional colleges in Telangana of blackmailing students and the government. They said these colleges were not following academic standards but continued to demand higher fees while depending on fee reimbursement.

The unions questioned why colleges approached courts for fee hikes while failing to pay teachers’ salaries. They alleged that managements opposed biometric attendance only to avoid accountability. They also blamed the previous government for granting approvals to many colleges without checking standards.

Fact-finding committees set up by JNTU-H were called non-transparent, which unions said led to today’s crisis. They demanded that the vigilance report, prepared under the BRS government, be made public. The report contains details of institutions lacking labs, proper facilities, and qualified staff.

Student leaders insisted that such colleges must lose recognition immediately. They also urged the government to clear pending reimbursement dues quickly, so students would not suffer financial losses. The unions stressed that accountability and transparency are needed to protect both students and teachers.
