The state has allocated ₹3 crore for this initiative, with ₹1 crore released immediately to begin payments. Weavers will receive 15,000 each directly in their bank accounts as working capital to overcome financial challenges and grow their trade.

Around one lakh weavers live in Bihar, but only about 7,000 are registered and will benefit from the scheme initially. Many weavers have struggled financially, and some have left the profession due to low income.

District industry centers will prepare lists of eligible weavers and share bank details with the Handloom and Silk Directorate. Officials hope the scheme will strengthen local handloom businesses, boost income, and encourage more youth to join this traditional craft.

The industry department has already started the process and is closely monitoring implementation. With this initiative, the Bihar government hopes to protect livelihoods, improve the economic condition of weavers, and promote the state’s handloom heritage.
