Kerala’s capital, Thiruvananthapuram, has climbed 11 places in India’s popular tourist city rankings. It moved from 33rd in 2024 to 22nd in 2025. According to a report released on Wednesday by digital travel platform Agoda, the coastal city is now the fastest-growing destination for international travellers.

The city attracts visitors with its scenic beaches, Ayurvedic wellness centres, heritage sites, and ancient temples. Travellers also value its easy access to Kerala’s backwaters and hill stations. Agoda noted that international tourists increasingly choose Thiruvananthapuram for its blend of culture, relaxation, and natural beauty.

Among domestic travellers, Indore has emerged as the most trending city. It rose from 35th place in 2024 to 28th in 2025. Tourists praised the city for its cleanliness, vibrant street food, and heritage bazaars. Other fast-rising Asian destinations for Indian tourists include Almaty in Kazakhstan, Sapa in Vietnam, Okayama, Takamatsu, and Matsuyama in Japan, and Bandung in Indonesia.

Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attributed the growth to the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASHAD schemes. These initiatives upgraded infrastructure, developed themed tourism circuits, and revived heritage sites. The government also approved 40 new projects worth ₹3,295 crore to promote lesser-known destinations. In addition, it encouraged homestays through Mudra loans and reduced GST on hotel tariffs to make travel more affordable.

The BJP Kirtan Darbar Outreach gained momentum on Tuesday when the party held a kirtan darbar at Virasat-e-Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib. The BJP Kirtan Darbar Outreach is part of the 350th martyrdom anniversary events of Guru Teg Bahadur. It also shows a clear shift in the party’s outreach in Punjab.

For the first time, the BJP organised an independent Sikh religious programme in the state. Earlier, the party relied on its alliance with the SAD. However, after the alliance ended, the BJP began to build its own connection with Sikh voters. This new approach aims to expand its base before the 2027 Assembly elections.

A high-level team visited Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib before joining the event. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, state president Sunil Jakhar and former Union minister Parneet Kaur offered prayers. Shekhawat said the Centre wants to highlight Guru Teg Bahadur’s message across the world. Kaur also said the state BJP will seek a development package for Anandpur Sahib.

Moreover, the party announced more programmes across Punjab this month. District-level kirtan darbars and Sukhmani Sahib recitations will take place till November 30. Analysts believe the BJP now wants a stronger presence in Sikh religious and cultural spaces. This shift marks a new strategy for the party in Punjab.
