In a historic moment for Indian sports, Ahmedabad has been recommended to host the 24th Commonwealth Games in 2030. The decision, announced during the Commonwealth Sport Executive Board meeting, marks the centenary celebration of the Commonwealth Sport Movement. The recommendation will be reviewed by the General Assembly in November 2025.

The proposal was jointly submitted by the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India. It reflects India’s growing influence in international sports under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel played key roles in strengthening sports infrastructure across the country.

Amit Shah credited the milestone to Modi’s vision of building world-class facilities and nurturing global-level athletes. Bhupendra Patel called it a proud moment for Gujarat and India. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the 2030 Games would showcase India’s unity, inclusivity, and confidence on the world stage.

Commonwealth Games Association President P.T. Usha described the event as “Games for the Future,” emphasising sustainability and innovation. The Games are expected to boost urban development, youth engagement, and international cooperation, reinforcing India’s ambition to become a global sporting hub.
